I don’t have many problems in my life. Why am I still unhappy?

I have a good job and am currently in school. I am living with my parents and will move out later this year. My life right now is simple and easy. But I’m just not happy. I’ve thought that it was the monotony getting me down but now I’m not sure. I don’t have many friends that live near me and I spend a lot of time alone. I feel useless sometimes, and think that I’m not making a difference in the world. How can I be happy with monotony and not many friends near me?

Status Quo is different things to different people.

It sounds like "simple and easy" isn't really what you NEED.

You are hitting the checkboxes that seem to make sense and yet your place in all of this seems illusive.

Finding purpose is at the crux of of stability and peace.

Now you may be asking yourself ---How do I start this?

It sounds like you are already in a self discovery zone, as you have been able to recognize that there is something missing.

The first steps can be the trickiest, so don't be too hard on yourself if this takes you some time to process.

Look at the areas you excel at, that you find joy or that pique your interest. These are good indicators you are on the right path.

This can be as simple as allowing yourself to engage in activities that are new (which can be scary) or maybe taking an inventory of  your skill sets.

Are you good with people, athletic, creative or do you like to be in nature?

Try to find activities that ignite your drive for life, your passion.

Consider joining different groups that are interested in your new hobbies. These can be found on Facebook really easily.

This would serve two purposes as you would meet new people and explore new areas of growth.

The fact that your friends do not live close can leave you feeling isolated. You may need more relationships in your life.

**Please make sure that the people you let into your life are positive, uplifting and inspiring.

Overall, spend some time getting to know yourself.  Your needs, wants and what it takes for you to feel balanced.  You have been able to prove you are responsible by having a job and saving enough money to be able to move out.  These are the first steps and the framework.  Now, let's focus on the foundation of what you are trying to build. Let's let the journey of adulthood begin with you being secure in the knowledge of your path and your foundation.
