Where motivation occurs?
Motivation is a component that can be really helpful in a variety of ways. However, it can be hard to find at times and can be helpful to consider where motivation occurs. Certain settings in life are more prone to cultivate motivation than others. One type of setting that can definitely promote and cultivate motivation is a passionate setting. When we are a part of something that there is a clear passion for, it can really instill motivation in those participating in it. For example, if you are participating on an Olympic team, you will likely experience a high passion, which will help with motivation. When you are in a setting that does not seem very passionate, it can definitely be more challenging to instill your motivation.
It is also important to consider individual versus team settings. Some of us are more likely to experience motivation in an individual setting, whereas some people are more likely to feel motivated in a team setting. Individual settings could include someone self-employed, individual sports, individual hobbies, among other settings. Team settings could include sports teams, workplace teams, school teams, among other settings. It can also be helpful to think about cultural differences in certain settings. For example, some cultures will promote more motivation from within, whereas other cultures will promote motivation from an external setting. For example, religious cultures might promote that motivation should come from a spiritual source rather than from a person’s own motivations.
Motivation is more likely to happen in a setting where there is a clear purpose that you are working towards. Whenever we feel aimless and like there is no clear direction, it can really get in the way of motivation. For example, when a team at work has a clear deadline, the ins, and outs of a project to do, etc., they are likely to feel motivated to accomplish it. Also, if they can understand why they are doing the project and what purpose it is meant to serve, they are more likely to feel motivated because there is a clear purpose in mind throughout.
