Why motivation is a myth?
Motivation can be somewhat confusing, especially when you are having a difficult time attaining it. Many people and a lot of societies will promote that motivation is what we need to accomplish goals, desires, accomplishments, etc., in life. However, something interesting to think about is that motivation is more of a myth and something society promotes rather than something we actually need. One strong reason to give evidence to motivation being a myth is that it does not need to come first. So many people will think that motivation needs to come first, and then you will be motivated to take action. While this can sometimes be the case, the reality is we so often need action to come before motivation. When people believe this myth, they, unfortunately, wait a long time for motivation, and some never actually see the motivation happen. If you can see this myth for what it is, you can hopefully see how taking action can help the motivation to come second.
When you first, you often feel better and more motivated, even after just one try. For example, if you want to learn a new language but feel really unmotivated due to how much to learn, you will likely stay unmotivated as long as you think about that. However, if you can take the first step and learn just a few words, that will likely feel really positive, which will ignite motivation in you to learn more.
Another way you can instill motivation to come second is to go after something you value. Even if you are not motivated to do something, it will be more likely that the motivation will follow if you value whatever it is. For example, if you want to lose weight but having a hard time with the motivation to do so, it can be helpful to think about what you value. If you value being athletic, that can help you take action, leading to more motivation to go after those goals.
