Do I require therapy?
It sounds like you are very much in tune with the fact that you don't feel like you are enjoying life. Sometimes people feel this way when they don't feel present in their everyday life. There are different reasons why we may disconnect from our current life. It may feel very stressful or frustrating to deal with everyday life, so we may decide to check out (not always consciously). It may not be something that we are conscious about, but it does happen to some of us sometimes. You mentioned a sleepwalk state is something that you experience. Some people may experience moments in life where their mind feel disconnected from their body. And this comes back to the idea that we may disconnect from a stressful environment for purposes of functioning in our everyday life.
The sensation of feeling disconnect from your body or mind is called depersonalization. There are different levels of depersonalization that can vary from person to person depending on their experiences and life. One example that many people can identify with depersonalization is reflecting on a time when we got into a car. We drive away and before we know it, we arrive at home. But we may not even realize how we got there as it was almost a robotic reaction; it's something that we do without much thought because we have done it so many times. But this can happen when we are so distracted that our mind wanders off onto stressful thoughts. We can see how being this distracted can be dangerous as it can prevent us from truly being present in the moment. We may not be able to enjoy the scenic route home or anything around us for that matter.
So how do we allow ourselves to overcome this? We just need to catch ourselves in the moment when it happens and try to ground ourselves by being present. By being more present, we can enjoy what is going on in the moment and really be present in the here and now. But if we have been disconnected for a while, it is important to note that it may take some time to adjust to being present. The best way to do it is by grounding yourself. For some people, it is helpful to do a grounding exercise that can help you get there. Here is a good worksheet that can guide you in this process: https://www.therapistaid.com/worksheets/mindfulness-exercises.pdf
So if we are going to be more present in the moment, it is important that we find healthy ways to manage stressors. Sometimes intrusive thoughts or intense feelings may come up, and we may need to be prepared to deal with them. For some people, depersonalization is a coping mechanism that is a way that the body and mind knows to protect itself. And it may even be caused by something that we experienced, such as trauma or a very stressful event. But as a reminder, trauma can vary from something that is somewhat intense to extremely intense depending on the person. Thus, being present in the here and now can trigger some repressed thoughts and feelings may come up again. And it is important that we find ways to tolerate difficult emotions and refrain unhelpful thoughts that may come up.
Using media, like Youtube or Netflix, is a great distraction when we want a break from reality. But we can see how seeing content through media can also prevent us from enjoying life. Although it may help us disconnect, it can also prevent us from experiencing amazing things in life. Sometimes we may not even want to socialize with others as we may find comfort in staying home and watching TV. And there is nothing wrong with doing this from time to time, but it can be problematic if we begin to isolate from other things in life. So just something to keep in mind.
I would definitely encourage you to seek out some self-help books that discuss grounding and being present in the here and now if this is a goal that you have for yourself. This can definitely help guide you on this journey, but it's important to remember that it may take some time to ground yourself and adjust to it.
But if you feel like you need some additional support to be more present and finding ways to deal with the intense feelings and thoughts that may come afterward, you can also seek individual mental health therapy services.
Best of luck to you on your journey to heal.
