I never did therapy

I don't think to need to speak with someone. But it would probably help me.
I don't know, I'm still unsure.
I have problems to stay on the path and set goals. I can't control my anxiety. Actually, I feel I'm not in control of anything in my life.
How therapy works?

The question is therapy right for me is a question I am often asked, whilst there is no right or wrong answer as therapy is an individual choice you may want to consider the following to help you decide:

  • Am I ready to talk through my problems with a trained professional? Therapy works best when you feel comfortable with your therapist, for example you may feel more comfortable with a gender specific therapist or someone who shares your religious or spiritual beliefs. This is so important as you need to feel able to discuss your feelings and be as open and honest as you can. If you are not comfortable with your therapist you will not feel able to open up and be genuine. This will result in a poor experience of therapy simply because you did not feel a connection with your therapist.
  • Take a look at the profile of your therapist and choose a therapist that specialises in the things that you are struggling with things like anxiety, addiction, grief etc You may also want to research the modality your therapist specialises in.

All therapists are trained to be non-judgmental and to listen empathetically to their clients. They are not there to give advice but rather to offer coping strategies and to listen and help you reflect on the things you are struggling with.

All therapy sessions offer you the space to work through problems and issues. Some therapists will help you set goals to help you become the best version of yourself. Reflection time between sessions will help you get the most out of the therapy sessions.

There are no set number of sessions as you dictate the pace, you can stop therapy at any time. It is however advisable to try more than one session, your therapist will periodically review how the therapy is going for you. You dictate what is brought to the therapy room to discuss this can vary from issues you want to work through from your past to things that are happening right here and now.

Remember therapy is there to aid you and it is you that chooses when and how many sessions are appropriate for you.
