So I think I’m falling for my best friend
Hi there. Thank you for getting in touch and reaching out for some help. I am wondering exactly what your specific question may be about your situation. But to add onto that, I am wondering what sort of feelings you are having for him? If you are aware you are not attracted to him - does that mean you only have inner emotions going on? Or can you see past the feelings of non-attraction? Surely we have to have some sort of sexual chemistry there if we have romantic feelings for someone? I would ask you possibly if you have ever had feelings come up like this before (even if you haven't acted on it?) Have you been attracted to other people who are close to you before? Have you considered talking to him about this and about how you feel? I have a lot of questions and challenges that I would ask you if you were in a therapy session with me - so apologies for many questions! Have you asked yourself what sort of relationship you would like with him? If you do talk to him about how you feel, how will that change the relationship? What are you expecting from him if you tell him or what would you want his response to be if you told him? There is SO much to unpack here. As you clearly don't want to lose him a friend, but you clearly still want him in your life. So how does all that sound? Sometimes it helps to write things down as you then try to look at both the positives and the negatives. Even if you decide to do a pros and cons list - so you can actually visibly see it - sometimes that helps. But mostly - it ultimately sounds like you could do with talking things through. Have you considered actually having some therapy on here to try to make a difference to your life? Then you can actually talk things through properly to a counsellor who can recognize and validate your feelings? I think you need to know that it is OK to have thoughts like this. I wish you the best.
