What would make me qualify for financial assistance? And how would that look if I did qualify?

I am a student in college who has been unable to find work that fits into my studies. I feel uncomfortable asking my parents for financial assistance for online therapy.

Hello, that is a very good question, and a question that several people have asked me.  Here's what I suggest, reach out to Betterhelp's customer support team to see about financial assistance or reduced fees for the subscription.  I know they have been great at helping people get the support they need while also understanding that due to Covid and/or other life events can make it financially tight!  Fortunately, online therapy is much more cost affordable than some of the more traditional routes, but money is money!  Would it be helpful for your parents to know that online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as the more traditional face to face approach?  Or that online therapy isn't just the asynchronous messaging, but that you have the ability to do weekly phone and/or video sessions as well?

On a different note, I saw that you had mentioned that you were currently taking classes as well, and yes, that would be really challenging to find a job that fits in with your schedule!  I'm not sure what your university is currently doing in terms of COVID, but it might also be useful to look into the university counseling center or, if they are full, they may be contracting out to licensed therapists in the area.  So you might consider also reaching out to them to see if they have recommnedations or referrals that you would be able to use.  And it may even be a part of your student fees that you pay each semester.

Those would be some good places to start, and I'm glad that you are reaching out to start exploring therapy.  Just like anything, it is good to explore and talk to a few people/counselors to ensure that whichever way you go, you feel comfortable and as though it's a good fit for you!  I wish you the best of luck and please do not hesitate to reach back out to me if you have any other questions that come up for you!  I also wish you luck in your studies...I can only imagine how challenging college would be right now with the pandemic!
