Will talking to a counselor help me understand my gender dysphoria?
Hello, Thanks for reaching out and thank you for the boldness in sharing your current situation. I'm happy to take your question. It sounds like you're contemplating a lot in your life right now. It also seems like you are on the right track to doing your best to find answers to help better yourself. Consider your first step in the right direction as this question. The fact you are reaching out for guidance shows you're are willing to give your self a chance. Self awareness and insight can be key in resolving unsettled feelings. Speaking with a counselor can be very beneficial. A counseling setting can provide a non biased platform guiding you to increased clarity and further helping to build a stable foundation for next steps in your future. I have worked with many experiencing gender identity concerns and have found that through beginning a counseling relationship people can begin to feel understood and heard which lessens the pressure they feel surrounding their concerns. Remember what counseling is and what counseling is not. Counseling is a safe place for you to have a voice about what truly keeps you up at night. Counseling is an outlet where you can be as open as you prefer with out judgment. Counseling is not intended to be harmful or judgmental. Counseling does not have to be long term but can be if needed. Speaking with a counselor can provide direction and a sense of freedom. Contemplating trans-identities may be something you want to feel supported in while venturing. I understand being a student comes with some financial disparities. You will most definitely want to consider the cost as an investment in your self, consider your big picture financials when making this decision. You may consider asking yourself some key questions so that you know it's ok to move forward with the decision for paying for counseling: Am I financially able to maintain a safe living environment? Can I fund my food and clothing? Are other essential needs being met? Do I have any extra cash flow for this investment or is there any way I can earn extra to put for this effort in myself? Feel free to reach out, we are here to help support you through this time.
