Through our first couple sessions we can start to identify some goals and strategies to work through your feelings. Different approaches work for different people. It's important to understand your personality to find the best therapy style for you. I'm very versatile and have a client-centered style that will likely fit your needs. Trauma and past abuse can affect every aspect of your current life if not processed. Some people's relationships take a toll, and some have anxiety, depression, or panic attacks. Other have poor sleep, changes in their eating habits, and some develop poor coping mechanisms like trying to distance themselves from people to keep from getting hurt, or trying to control their environment in a way that restricts a happy lifestyle.
You are not alone. Many people have past trauma and abuse that continues to follow them. Our goal will be a combination of processing the past, and helping you find a way to move past your past. We can also learn coping skills and strategies to work through they symptoms you have from the trauma and abuse. Mindfulness and meditation are just two of the common skills taught to help work through anxiety and panic feelings. It can help to reframe your past and sometimes see if from a different perspective. Trauma and abuse can often feel like a weight you are carrying that gets heavier and heavier to longer you leave it unprocessed
Therapy is not a quick fix. Much like fitness and weight loss, processing your trauma and moving towards a healthier mind takes time, consistency, and effort. The most important part of starting therapy is recognizing a problem, and a desire to want something different for yourself. So I would encourage you to consider the benefits of therapy and taking the time to invest in yourself.
