Is it possible that my relationship changed my life for better or worse?

So I met a guy online after talking to him for a couple weeks and then we dated after the first meeting. Good thing was that we had so much in common and the connection was strong. We fell in love early. Pretty much jumped into everything early. It was all fun and love. Also felt like I finally met my match. But once it came towards meeting my family, everything has changed. The first few meetings were fine. But things got wild and aggressive but for whatever reason I kept staying by him. And it’s not like I was choosing him alone then. But because I had my reasons towards them. I was pretty much the black sheep in the family and everybody had their opinions on how to live my life. Despite the fact that they were the cause of some of my actions. So my boyfriend and family don’t get along at all for different reasons and now I can’t enjoy birthdays or holidays anymore without it making me anxious. At certain points I also felt like him and I weren’t meant for each other but I’ve never been with anyone like him. I just don’t get everything in my life had to change so rapidly to where it feels like I never get a break?

Hello, thank you for your question!

Relationships naturally change our lives, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. You need to ask yourself how you feel and if you are truly happy in the relationship. It can be very challenging to be in a relationship with someone that does not mesh well with your friends/family. You need to decide whether this relationship is worth the potential sacrifices. If you are truly happy with this person and want to be with them indefinitely, I would encourage you to have an open and honest conversation with both him, and your family. It can be hard to navigate all the changes at once. Try to remember that your happiness is of the utmost importance and whatever decision you do make, make it for you. Be open and honest with how you are feeling and ask yourself what you truly want. Is this person that you cannot imagine your life without? You said that at certain points, you felt like the two of you were not meant for each other. Why? Ask yourself what parts of him and/or your relationship do not fit well with you. You also mentioned that why everything in your life had to change dramatically and you feel as though you can never catch a break. It can often feel like it's a domino effect, when one bad thing happens, a million things follow. Sometimes it is about perspective and giving yourself the time and space you need in order to figure out what you want, and what truly makes you happy. If you need time alone to think, take that time. If you need to have conversations with those you love, have those conversations. If you need time to reevaluate who is in your life, take that time. Do things for yourself that bring you joy and happiness. Self care is incredibly important and we often are focused so much on others and what is happening around us, we forget to care for ourselves.  Live your life for yourself and those that are meant to be in your life, will stick by your side. I truly believe that people are in our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime and we can learn and grow from every relationship regardless of how long they are in our lives for (not just romantic relationship-friendships and family are included). I hope this was helpful. I encourage you to reach out anytime if you need any additional support.
