It is possible to love 2 people at the same time?
Love can mean different things to different people. Love is an intimate deep affection for someone. We may love certain things and people in our lives. There are also different types of love. Sometimes we may feel love toward our friends. We may also express love towards family. And then we may express love to our a partner. So love can look different depending on the relationship, which can also shape the way that we express love.
Sometimes we may feel love towards all individuals who have played a role in our lives, which can include past partners. We may still have great memories about this past partner and even appreciate their existence. We may even still recognize that they were a big part of our lives. And that's understandable. Sometimes that person may remain in our lives, and we may still know a lot about them and care about them a great deal. But sometimes we may feel it's best to cut ties with that person after the break-up. There may be different reasons why that person is not in our lives anymore, but remembering why that's the case can be quite helpful.
Having a natural curiosity about an ex is very normal from time to time. But if it becomes something that we think about everyday or all day (even more than our partner or current family), then we really do need to take a step back and reflect. What is it about this person that makes you so curious in your day to day life? How is knowing more about his life beneficial for you?
It sounds like you are having some doubts about wanting to know more about your ex as you now have a family of your own. How do you feel about your current family? Are you happy in your current relationship? Many times the answer to these questions make wonder about what if situations especially if there are some doubts about our current life situation. Sometimes wondering about past partners is curiosity about what our life would have been like if we had ended up with that person. But it doesn't necessarily mean that we are in love with them. Envisioning a different life than the one that we are in can be due to many different reasons. Are you feeling challenged in your life? Do you have goals that you look forward to accomplishing? Sometimes if we feel stuck or lost with these questions, it can definitely take a toll on us. We may even think about what our lives would be like if they had more excitement or different situations. Something to think about: is there is anything that you could add into your life that would make it feel more fulfilling?
In terms of being in love with two people at the same time: yes, it is possible. Sometimes people carry qualities that we really appreciate in partners. Some partners will have these qualities while others don't. And wanting to get those needs met is valid and understandable. But it is important that we ask ourselves: are we truly in love with two people? Or do just love or care about the other? Some people, who are in love with two or more people at once, are in polyamorous relationships. As they love more than one person at once, and they are in relationships with more than one person. So it just depends on your relationship preference and which type you are interested in having with the people that you love.
But there is also the possibility that you still care and love your ex. I am not sure if your ex is still in your life now. But if he is not in your life, it may be curiosity or still caring about this person who was once very important to you. And that makes sense as we don't forget about important moments in our lives. Even if our lives are different and that person may not be in our lives anymore. Being curious about whatever happened to him is understandable. But asking yourself if this will serve any purpose for you today is really important to consider.
I know that this may be a lot to consider and explore. There are a lot of self-help books out there that discuss love, different types of love, and finding meaning in life. These might be helpful in guiding you through the process. But if you feel stuck or like you need more assistance, I would definitely consider reaching out to a counselor or mental health therapist. Best of luck to you on your journey.
