What is the best way to forget all of your bad past relationships?

I'm having panic attacks regularly whenever i think about the bad things exes have said to me, like: i deserved to be cheated on, I look ugly or they even made me feel that I'm the one who cheated on them. Every time i am starting to like someone new, i keep remembering these things so i hinder myself to be in a new relationship.

Hi Cam,

It is not uncommon to suffer from panic attacks. Our brain is programmed to relive experiences in the hope we find a different reality or take responsibility for what happened.  One of the worst things about panic attacks is the intense fear that you'll experience the same again, you can become stuck in this cycle unsure of how to move forward.

Anxiety and panic attacks stem from a place of constant worry. Worrying about what could potentially happen IF, I do this or that. Bring yourself into your reality, what can you touch, taste, smell and hear? Bring your mind into the 'now,' and focus on helping your body and mind regulate. This will take practice.

You are not to blame for the actions of another person, you are not to blame for someone who cheated on you. However, if the relationship or relationships continued to share the same patterns there could be potential that you are conditioned a certain way. For example, you are conditioned to pick up certain queues and internalized them - this can result in taking 100% of the blame and trying to find ways internally to change most things about yourself to keep someone else happy.

Moving into a new relationship with open wounds can leave you open to becoming 're-triggered,' as you may have not processed the past events fully which can lead to self-sabotaging or history repeating itself. Counseling can help unpack your past relationships and help you implement boundaries. Think of boundaries as a fence of protection you surround yourself with.

When we hold our boundaries and stay true to what we want, we become a force of power. This often results in attracting the right people into our lives.

Please know, all is not lost. There is hope in changing the path you believe yourself to be on.

Hope this is useful,

Nichola
