What should I do if my friends aren't talking to me as they used to?

I just want to thank you for giving me this chance I really appreciate it. Anywho this half year I have been feeling like my friends do not message or talk to me as they used to. I understand that life can get in the way or just other things, but then I notice them hanging out with other friends. Honestly I feel like Woody in that scene of Toy Story where Andy just drops him into the trash. I am not sure if I am just not fun to hang out with anymore, and it's not like I don't have the time, if anything I am usually very available to talk or do anything, but when I ask to call to play games or watch a movie everyone says yes but when the day actually comes almost everyone never responds on that day, and I wouldn't mind if I didn't see them hanging out with other friends or just ignoring my things. Anywho sorry for the long description and thanks in advance!

Hello!  Thank you for your question.

Without knowing anything about you, my first thought is that you may be asking the wrong question.  Instead of asking why they aren't hanging out with you, it may be more relevant to ask yourself why you would want to be around people who don't want to be around you?  Friends come and go in our lives and serve different purposes.  Some may be for brief periods during school for example and some may be throughout our whole lives.  Maybe they are more casual friends instead of close friends. Maybe they aren't really friends at all.

Another thing to consider is what do you get out of the relationships?  What are these people adding to your life?  If you find yourself feeling rejected or abandoned by them often then why put yourself through that?

Is this a theme in your life where people get 'tired of' you and don't want to be around you anymore or is this an isolated incident? How do you treat your friends?  Is there anything that you could do differently?

You may also want to just ask them if you haven't already.  Confront the issue straight on and see what they say.  The feedback may help you know if there is something you're doing or not doing that is causing the avoidance.  It's best not to make assumptions about these things.

There is a communication technique where you use "I" statements.  If you do ask them, you can say "when you exclude me from activities, I feel ___________" and you would fill in the blank.  "I feel rejected when you don't want to hang out with me and then I see you with other people." etc.

The last thing I thought of after reading your question is that it seems like when you plan something it falls through by the time the day gets there.  It may help to be more spontaneous and just call when you want to hang out right then and there.  Maybe they just aren't good with follow through.

I hope this helps!

Thank you.
