Dating is the opportunity for two people to get to know each other to determine the suitability for a committed relationship. Dating can turn into a relationship, but it is not a guarantee. A relationship takes time to build, and both parties must be open to having a relationship. Not everyone dating wants to be in a relationship; some like meeting new people and going out and having fun, nothing more and nothing less. There are a few signs that dating is heading in the direction of a relationship; they have had long-term relationships in the past, have relationship goals, and introduce you to family and friends.

PAST LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIPS

If the person you are dating has had long-term relationships in the past, it is more than likely the type of relationship they prefer. That person is not dating just to be dating but wants to find something meaningful. Obviously, since the person is dating, the past relationships did not work out, but they have not given up. They believe this is something they can still find someday and are open to the possibility that it could be with you. Would you please not make a mistake and assume this person wants a relationship with you but recognize that they are open to the prospect?

RELATIONSHIP GOALS

Anyone looking for a relationship will have relationship goals. They will open up to you about their hopes and plans for the future. Relationship goals can include long-term relationships, marriage, children, house, family vacations, family pets, and so much more. It is not just about having the goals but the willingness to discuss them with you in-depth. In this dating area, reciprocity is essential, and you must be willing to share your own relationship goals. Relationship goals also illustrate compatibility and if you two can be in sync in the future.

FAMILY & FRIENDS INTRODUCTION

The best sign that a person is starting to see you as more than just a date is when they introduce you to their family and friends. Most people like to keep their dating life somewhat private and don’t want or need everyone to know how often and how many people they are dating. This is particularly true for the dates that they know will not last much longer. However, when a person finds someone who becomes special to them while dating, they will want the opinion of the people they trust and love before taking that next step. Once invited to family dinners and friend’s events, you are on the cusp of being in a relationship. In these social settings, you must be yourself and show them the same “you” that your date has seen this whole time. It is that “you” that made them bring you into their personal circle.
