Will marriage die out?
Marriages are such a beautiful and great commitment that people can make to one another. With divorce rates at an all-time high, it can be easy to question if your marriage will die out or not. Even asking yourself can hopefully help you get ahead of it and prevent your marriage from dying out. One thing to keep in mind with marriage is that it is a long-term commitment. Most people view marriage as a commitment for the rest of your life. Therefore, it is only natural for longstanding to have highs, lows, and everything in between. If you can accept that and see that for what it is, it can help you know that the highs are still to come in the low moments.
The number one reason for divorce is over financial issues, so it is important to keep that in mind. We often hold a lot of emotion and stress to our finances, so when we are not on the same page with our spouse about finances, it can create resentment and friction. As long as those financial issues stay unresolved, it will likely lead to the marriage dying out. Being transparent about finances and expectations around your finances is really important to prevent the marriage from dying out.
As the marriage dies out, you will likely see more and more disconnect. Things that you used to have in common will likely not feel the same. Also, new things that you are interested in your spouse will likely not be interested in, which will continue the divide and disconnect. Attraction can also create a divide over time. Our bodies naturally change over time, and sometimes that can decrease the attraction to one another if a couple is not careful. For example, the body you had in your 20’s is likely very different from the body you have in your 60’s. All of these factors can easily lead to a marriage dying out over time. If you can see these warning signs for what they are and try to be proactive in working on them, that can hopefully help prevent your marriage from dying out.
