Can ambition lead to success?

“Ambition is the most important tool to achieving success, overriding both talent and resources by far.” This sentence describes perfectly how important ambition is in the recipe for success and meeting personal goals. The reason it might be even more important than natural-born talent is that with it, the talent remains stagnant and somewhat directionless. Additionally, a person can have all the resources in the world but without the sense of vision and forward-thinking ambition brings, these resources can go largely unused or misused.

What is the picture?

The ambition that leads to success looks a lot like a story with many moving parts. Imagine a teen struggling in school. This same teen visits a college their relative will be attending soon. The vision of a brighter future is more than what takes place. This teen thinks about moving out of an unpleasant upbringing, not connected with much up to this point, and realizing school might be a real opportunity. This same teen decides to start studying, gets a job, and makes a decision to start getting better grades, saving money, and stays away from parties or anything that might stand in the way of her success. Values are being born like a desire to be educated, stable, self-reliant, independent, and connected to a fresh start. These values feed the ambition and the ambition reinforces these ideals until they become a part of this teen. A few years later she watches her relative graduate college and watches herself graduate high school. Two different accomplishments are yet similar in that both were independently driven by ambition to achieve academically. The achievement leads to a career which she loves and esteem which continues to drive the ambition to become established in her field of interest.

Success has many different sides

Ambition does not have to be limited to measurable achievements like sports and jobs. Since the pandemic people have had an extraordinary opportunity to slow down commitments while speeding up their interests in serious gardening, crafting, woodworking, etc. This kind of ambition that leads to success is solidly esteem building and another important layer to strengthening ambitious behaviors.
