Why I can't make eye contact with anyone....And I want to clear my brain from negative thoughts?
Hello,
Non-verbal communication is a form of communication. It is a learned skill and takes time to develop. We often give out messages knowingly and unknowingly about how we feel to others. I believe that eye contact can be very personal because it can make you vulnerable and also it is how you show up in the world.
I would first encourage you to discuss your fears about judgement from people. Who are you and how do you want to represent yourself? What are your strengths and what are some areas of improvement? I would encourage you to start with exploring who you are, exploring your identity and your self-care. Start with you and the better you feel about you the more you will feel comfortable walking in your identify and making eye contact.
I also am a person who believes in establishing an accountability system. What are some personal goals that you would like to work on, are you holding yourself accountable and what is a healthy timeline? Also, I am not sure all of the experiences you went through in childhood and adolescence but they can also impact self-esteem. Past traumas can also trigger feelings that are not always comfortable. It is important to explore your triggers and ways to utilize healthy coping mechanisms. The better you feel about you the more you can show up. Also, what is your style of communication? Are you wanting to improve how you communicate? What are some of your boundaries that you would like to work on and identify them.
I believe that it may be hard to make eye contact due to wondering how people view you. I always encourage people to identify the weight you will allow others opinions to impact you. What are some of your personal things that you would like to improve about your self-esteem? Also, explore all the relationship dynamics you have in you life and are they healthy? Relationships have a direct impact on our self-esteem and this is why healthy boundaries are so important. This process is not going to be quick because sometimes we are unpacking years of uncertainty and changes. I would encourage you to do the work and continue looking at who you are and how you want to show up in this world. Take care.
