Can anxiety manifest in physical symptoms that are similar to vertigo such as being dizzy and losing footing as well as nausea and feeling your heart beating really hard and at an elevated rate
Yes, anxiety can become very physical. It is referred to as somatic symptoms. In a fight/flight/freeze response (anxiety) the body releases stress hormones. The stress hormones physically affect the body. If released with frequency, intensity and duration, the hormones can wreak havoc on the body like the symptoms you mention. What you may also be describing can be related to a trauma reaction as well. And in these states the body cannot get the rest it needs so you can seem to sleep/rest but just not get it in the way your body and brain needs thus you are tired. Also, a stress reaction is very tiring, so the body is exhausted. I would states though that you always want to rule out any medical. It's not a bad idea to go have a physical done; check in with your primary care doctor to make sure you are ok. It all depends on so many things. Never assume. Other things to consider are diet, movement, water consumption, any substance, alcohol consumption and these effects on the body. The situation we are all in varies according to household, but the one thing I have heard a lot about is COVID fatigue. People are having a very difficult time with this; so it is exacerbating things for everyone. I would notice your life, safety, and how you are feeling in this situation. How much stress are you under say with your household, family, financial? Grounding is very helpful with anxiety and dissociation. Grounding is all about staying present and being present in order to avoid being too far in the future or the past. It can help avoid having the stress hormones flow in our body and help us find a safety so that we can find a bit of time to relax or even feel a little bit better. I hope your present is safe. Change and flux in life can cause a lot of unease--can you find space to take a break from it like a day off, time with some hobbies? or even a favorite tv show or book? Take a look at even creative grounding like this. I hope this provides an answer for you and you can find more on this site in therapy.
