It seems as if the key word involved in your question relates to routine.  Do you have routine in general?  For example, do you have a sleep routine to set yourself up to have a healthy study routine?  Or... are you maybe pushing yourself too much and trying to do too much at once without setting a reasonable pace for yourself?

In terms of consistency, look at what factors into falling asleep while studying.  Have you eaten routinely, taken breaks routinely, rested routinely?  There is also a difference between being rigid with routine and being too loose in so many words.  Rigid would mean sticking to something without any flexibility and "too loose" would mean having very little or no structure.  Where do you fall in between the two to have moderation?

In terms of helping with consistency, there are several resources that might be helpful so that you do not have to remember all on your own.  For example, maybe setting an alarm on a clock or phone or writing and blocking off time on a calendar.

I bet that you have some routines already built in your life that have been going on for years and that you might not even recognize.  Using these as examples - do you do laundry on a certain day, call someone the same day during the week to touch base, prepare meals ahead of time, fuel your car, schedule appointments in advance ... merely out of routine?

Sometimes things become so "routine" because "consistency" has been instilled at a young age and sometimes, as adults especially, new ways of being consistent to build routine have to be explored.

Try not to allow yourself to focus on falling asleep to undermine the efforts and hard work that you have put into your studies.  Recognize your strengths to continue to do well with your studies.  It might just be as simple as learning new ways to develop routines for what works for you now.  Sometimes what did "work" might not always continue to "work" as life presents new challenges.  Trying new strategies, such as maybe an earlier bedtime, might set the stage to help you develop a new routine and in turn, gain confidence.
