What can I do to lower my stress in financial situations?
Financial stress can be very difficult and seem overwhelming at times. I know some stressors can become more cumbersome when certain things feel out of your control.
One of the best ways to manage anxiety during a stressor like this is to focus on what you can and cannot control. A lot of our worry and frustration rests on things outside of our control. It sounds like you have done a lot of things that are in your control such as working your job and applying for another. Unfortunately waiting for the background check is something out of your control right now and hopefully once that goes through a large weight will be lifted from you.
After determining what is and is not in your control, it might is important to try to remain focused on what is in your control and accepting that some things are out of our control. From that point, take it a step at a time or focus on each day at a time. Sometimes it can be helpful to make a list of your expenses, organize things from most important to least, and try to focus on one debt at a time. In the end, you can only do what is in your power to do.
It is also important to take care of yourself during this time of stress. Make sure to take time for self-care and activities that can help with reducing your overall level of stress. Self-care activities can include anything that helps to reduce your tension such as a hobby, going for a walk, or listening to music. You can also try mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, guided relaxation, yoga and stretching, or meditation.
During times of stress, it may also be helpful to reach out to those in your support system. Financial stress is something that people often find themselves struggling with and it can be helpful to get feedback from a friend or to just vent your frustrations. They may have some tips to help you or just be there for you so you do not feel alone.
