When is anxiety or worry something is going to happen to your newborn a problem?
I am so sorry to hear that you have been through big life changes in the past 6 months. Change is difficult and with a newborn it makes life changes more challenging and hard.
I would like to make a few suggestions that may help you reduce anxiety and worry.
First of all try to concentrate on what you are doing right. Seek support from caring family and friends. Identify patterns of negative response, deal with ''what is'' not ''what if.'' Increase awareness for situations, mood changes, tasks, and so forth, that trigger negative responses or escalate symptoms. Try to distract yourself, such as, find something to replace negative response like going on a walk, calling a friend, or meditating. Give yourself permission to do what would be helpful and have a backup plan where a husband or someone else can take care of tasks while you i.e. take a bath, exercise, engage in specific relaxation techniques, listen to music or pray. Maybe limit visits from family and friend, if possible. Talk about your experience with someone you trust. Deal with difficult feelings, feelings of guilt, feelings of failure, low self-esteem and perhaps fear of not being a good mother.
During the course of postpartum depression, a woman may also experience the baby blues. Sometimes postpartum stress syndrome is know as Adjustment Disorder. The level of emotional distress falls somewhere between minor baby blues and severe postpartum depression. Approximately one in five women experience postpartum stress syndrome. I would ask you to list other symptoms you may be experiencing for example, how is your concentration, how much energy do you have, do you feel tired all the time, how is your appetite, or are you having sugar and carbohydrate cravings and/or compulsively eating all the time. Do you feel hopeless, do you enjoy the things you used to enjoy, how is your sleep pattern, can you sleep when the baby sleeps, and do you feel sad most or all the time?
Remind yourself that it won't last for long, only do what needs to be done and get help.
I hope this helps. All the best.
