Why Mindfulness is important for students
Mindfulness is important for students because Mindfulness can be used to help students clear their minds in the present moment and focus on the “here and now.” The practice of Mindfulness can help students effectively learn to trust and be comfortable with what they are actually experiencing without feeling ridiculed or judged by their personal thoughts. It will ultimately take a lot of practice and effort for the student to learn to describe what is happening without judgment or ridicule as they are working to become more aware and take control of their situation, issues, and/or personal problem. With the continued practice and determination, being consistent with the practice of Mindfulness can be a simple and effective way to become more self-aware of their personal thoughts and feelings.
Students can use mindfulness to take a mental break and/or pause throughout the day when they are experiencing emotional and/or mental stressors. Students can also practice taking time to break away from their emotional and or mental stressors at the moment. This break can allow students to process their thoughts and feelings in real-time without judgment, ridicule and or bias. Students can use Mindfulness to focus on what their body is experiencing at the moment, thinking and or feelings. Students can take the time to become more aware of how what they are thinking affects the way they feel and, in turn, affects the way they behave.
Mindfulness can allow students to actively reflect on self-refection as they utilize Mindfulness strategies and techniques to work on self-regulating their emotions and/or feelings in the present moment. In some situations, students may feel like they have no control of the situation, problem and or issue they may face. Therefore, students need to be aware of how to practice and use Mindfulness techniques, so they can work on pausing to process their thoughts and feelings to allow the individual time to process their thoughts and feelings before they respond negatively.
