Cara Donahue

LCSW, LICSW

About me

Hello! I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) in MA, and a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in CT, which enable me to provide telehealth counseling services to clients in both states. This has proven especially beneficial for clients who live in one state and go to college in the other state.

Using a humanistic, holistic, strengths-based approach, I help young adults and adults to overcome conscious and unconscious blocks that inhibit healing and transformation. I am a passionate and empathetic advocate for people living with health challenges like depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and trauma.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I studied history, philosophy, and religious studies at Georgetown University, and earned a Master’s from Yale University in religion. I also completed a post-Master’s in school counseling, and worked for more than a decade in public schools with adolescents. For more than 2/5 years, I've worked in private practice with late adolescents, young adults, and adults. I am certified in the Watkins method of EFT (tapping), and several energy healing modalities. My lifelong interests in growing and learning mean I always work to bring more knowledge and skill to my work with clients.

My promise is to meet my clients where they are and help them to cultivate hope and healing through gentle inquiry into the past and present, skill-building, and the use of practical strategies. I look forward to working together to help you live an intentional and gratifying life.

I’ve only met with Cara three times, but I’m already certain I want to stick with her as a therapist. She listens so well, remembers details, relates with personal stories, and is just easy to talk with. She’s already given me tools that can help me in little ways. I’m excited to see how I grow with her guidance!
