About me

It is my opinion that life is a journey. That is why it is important to note; many times it is helpful to have a counselor walk beside you through your's. Coming from a nonjudgmental mindset allows me to, "sit," objectively and openly through each and every session. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

For over nine years, I have worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospital and private practice, helping individuals and families experience emotional wellbeing. I have assisted those struggling with a broad range of mood disorders, relationship problems, LGBTQ issues, conflict resolution and transitional challenges. The time I spent working in an inpatient, psychiatric hospital was invaluable. It helped to perfect my active listening skills, my ability to empathize with individuals and capacity to create a trusting relationship very quickly with most of my clients.
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral techniques which focus on changing how we think in a way that changes our emotions and behaviors. I am influenced by Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Person-centered theories. With either, CBT or MBSR, my approach tends to be solutions focused. I love what I do and feel blessed to have a skill set that allows me to impact individual to make the changes necessary to being happier and more fulfilled.
Seeing others grow and heal is one of the most rewarding parts of being a counselor. I am direct and honest in a caring way. In other words, I will provide empathy, warm, positive regard and, when needed, gentle challenges. I am currently licensed in Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

I have found that scheduling touch points (Live Sessions) at least once every two weeks is a very good practice. Messaging in between the sessions seems to be a perfect combination, especially for online therapy. The other part of Live Sessions that is helpful is getting to hear the voice of my client. So much information can be gathered on the phone in a shorter period of time, along with advantages of not only hearing what the client is saying, but the tone and inflection in their voice as well .
I look forward to working with you in the near future!

I am married to my husband Jim with three adult step children. I enjoy weight lifting, running, swimming, rollerblading, biking and traveling, just to name a few.
