Carlisle Bergquist, LCMFT
About me
I am a Clinical Marriage & Family Therapist licensed in Kansas with 35 years of professional work experience. Before moving back to Kansas, I worked as a therapist in California at a school for troubled children and later in a maximum security jail. I have helped clients with many different disorders as well as relationship issues, family conflicts, intimacy related issues, motivation, self esteem, confidence, and issues arising during spiritual emergence.
I studied Transpersonal psychology at John F. Kennedy University and Saybrook Institute in the San Francisco area. While I use several therapeutic modalities, I am primarily Rogarian in my session work. Treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion is of upmost importance. I believe the human spirit is remarkably resilient and able to heal from so much with a little encouragement. My task is to participate, encourage, and be a witness to your growth and healing. I will tailor our work together to meet your unique needs.
The decision to start therapy takes courage and commitment to change. In my opinion, the most import aspect of your decision, is finding the right therapist, one you can trust and with whom you can share the details of your life. Forming a strong therapeutic relationship together makes all the difference.
I have heard many life stories from all kinds of people in my years as a therapist. If I seem to be the right therapist for you, then I look forward to hearing your story. So, shall we get started?

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Carlisle Bergquist. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Working with Carlisle has been invaluable during one of the most challenging periods of my life. As someone navigating complex family law matters and international custody issues, I needed a therapist who could help me process intense emotions while maintaining clarity and perspective.
Carlisle provides a combination of compassionate listening and practical guidance. They help me identify patterns from my own childhood that affect my responses today, while keeping me focused on what I can control and the wellbeing of my children. This balance between insight and action has been crucial.
What I appreciate most is Carlisle's ability to hold space for my fear and grief about limited contact with my children, while also helping me develop strategies for emotional regulation during ongoing legal stress. They've helped me distinguish between appropriate concern and catastrophizing, and to maintain ethical boundaries even when facing difficult situations.
Carlisle has supported me in recognizing intergenerational trauma patterns without becoming lost in them, and in developing a clearer vision of healthy relationships and co-parenting. Their guidance has helped me stay grounded and intentional rather than reactive during an extremely destabilizing time.
I would highly recommend Carlisle to anyone dealing with family law matters, co-parenting challenges, or working through the impact of childhood trauma while trying to be a better parent themselves. Their expertise in these intersecting areas has been essential to my healing and growth.

Carlisle has been a fantastic listener in the few sessions that we've had. There hasn't been much for him to say, because I've done most of the talking! I needed to manage it time better for sure. I'm hopeful that he can help me with all the issues over had growing up and as being an adult. There's so much healing and change I've got to do. I believe Carlisle will help me be the better person I can be!
