I am a Licensed Mental Health therapist with a collective approach. If you are feeling depressed or anxious it is so great that you are here at Betterhelp to begin working on your concerns. I specialize in working with a variety of different diagnosis but especially in depression and anxiety. Are you tired of feeling so anxious or sad that its affecting your relationships? perhaps your day- to - day enjoyment of life such as school, work or relationships. Lets begin working together to help your wellness. Please continue reading if you would like to know more about me, or my approach to counseling.
I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach while also incorporating developmental stages. However, above all else, I cater my counseling style for each client as they desire. I am usually very empathetic and love to listen to clients as they express their concerns how ever some clients specifically request various approaches such as direct confrontation, authenticity, suggestions and recommendations. I also integrate specific values and faith base or worldviews as requested.
I have experience in working with clients with Substance Abuse and utilize the recovery model. I am personally passionate about those struggling with addictions because I have family members and friends who are in recovery. I enjoy advocating in my spare time in the recovery community and creating awareness that it is not a choice but rather a mental health concern. If a family member has mentioned to you that you have a problem with drugs, alcohol, gambling, or gaming it is worth exploring if there is an issue one way or another. I have facilitated groups, individual and family counseling because often families are involved as a part of the process.
I specialized in working with Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+). I have attended multiple conferences and worked with many clients in these areas. I am personally passionate about this as well and volunteer in the community at PRIDE events as an Ally. Across many various cultural and generational groups LGBTQ+ can be on a spectrum of easy to deal with to very challenging, and scary. The clients who I have worked with have found counseling to be beneficial to increase their levels of comfort.
I have experience working with ages 5-79 years old specializing in anxiety and depression, bipolar disorder. I enjoy working with all age ranges and love the diversity that it brings.
On a personal note I would like to share a little about myself so you can learn a little about me. I grew up in Maryland, went to school in Virginia, lived in North Carolina for a year and finally moved to Florida. I lived in Florida for two years and loved it and am looking forward to return to it in the near future. I am currently living in Texas to take care of family who is sick out here and to enjoy all Texas has to offer. I have three dogs with my significant other. Baxter, 1 year old Maltese-Poodle; Bruce, 3 year old Catahoula great Pyrenees mix; and Beary, 2 ish years old Poodle-Australian shepherd mix. Yup thats Baxter, Bruce, and Beary. The first two were rescued from craigslist and Beary was rescued from our local Humane Society. I love dogs so much!
My undergraduate degree was at Liberty University and while I loved the campus life, my degree in Worship Music studies seemed to be a very specific job type. At the time I had a passion "To help people through music" and was even considering Music therapy. I graduated with a minor in Psychology with a Bachelors in Science. However I then pursued a year of Seminary and quickly identified that ministry was not the path for me. I felt lost because I had invested 5 years into doing music and ministry. However in a faithful step I pursued counseling as my masters and it became clear very quickly that "helping people" was my purpose in life. Counseling is my passion because I love to see things on a spectrum of transformation. Throughout my lifetime I have had my own struggles with un-diagnosed depression and anxiety and it wasn't until I started therapy that really the "why and how" became clear and helped me move forward. It was not until after I finished my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling that I was able to pursue counseling myself and deconstruct and un-complicate my life personally.
I hope to offer that hope and encouragement to you as you begin your journey with betterhelp!
I look forward to hearing more about you....Please take the first step and lets start on the path of wellness.
