Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile! My name is Dr. Chad Nelson, and I am a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Maryland. Following my internship and fellowship at The University of Maryland School of Medicine, I have been in practice for the past 23 years. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families with a variety of presenting symptoms, including anxiety, mood, attention, organization, motivation, school performance, work performance, and athletic performance.
My primary therapeutic approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). With CBT, you and I will work on identifying thoughts and behaviors that may be contributing to your current situation and developing strategies for helping you feel better. I truly believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is vital in establishing and maintaining progress, so you and I will work as a team to bring about positive change in your life.
Aside from psychology, athletics have been a big part of my life. I played ice hockey and tennis in college, also having coached ice hockey up to the collegiate level. I have also consulted with USA Hockey on coaching players with certain learning and/or attention disorders, and work with coaches from a variety of sports on coaching players with learning and/or attention disorders.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!

Dr. Nelson is a very professional person and approachable. During sessions he seems to be both taking notes and invested in the current discussion which to me shows he cares both for the future and current situation. There is nothing bad to say about him as a professional and as a person just to know and talk to.
