I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in DC and MD. I have experience working with adolescents, adults, couples and families with a varying array of needs to include depression, substance use and ADHD. I have also worked in a variety of settings to include an inpatient state hospital, an inpatient substance abuse facility, a non-profit in-home therapy provider, private practice and an outpatient mental health clinic. While I work well with those that aren't quite ready to make life changes, I work best with individuals that are engaged and ready to do the work needed to live their best life.
I have a person-centered approach to therapy and typically use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help clients accomplish their goals. I believe that everyone deserves to live their best lives and deserves to be happy from within.

Since talking to Chanell Gaines I have grown tremendously in my relationships with family and friends as well as myself. I feel more confident in myself and my ability to have healthy boundaries, thanks to Chanell Gaines.
Chanell was a great counselor! I felt that she was very sincere and a great listener. I felt like she was always reassuring and that I felt better every time we had a session. Thank you Chanell!
Chanell is compassionate, caring and a great listener. She proactively asks questions to guide me and help me unpack my feelings. And she shows she really cares about your healing and improvement. I also like that she explains things well so I feel I gained more clarity after each session.
Chanell Gaines is an amazing counselor! She really listens and wants to get to the root of my problems. She gave me a couple worksheets to do so I could retrain my brain on the way I think. I really feel like I made progress even with 2 sessions. I would highly recommend her! Thanks Chanell.
