About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Utah, United States. I have experience working with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, addiction, and LGBTQ concerns. My main specialty, and the majority of my clientele, are women of all ages struggling with a variety of issues, from learning to set boundaries and improving relationships, to dealing with stress and anxiety. I also have extensive experience treating addictions, including pornography and substance addictions. Another area where I specialize is working with LGBT clients, wherever you are on your journey.

My counseling style is accepting and genuine. I am real, with no pretense. I'm not "clinical" or "detached." I try to offer a safe, nonjudgmental place to explore your struggles at your pace, with no pressure. My style is also flexible. Sometimes all you need is someone to listen while you explore your emotions. Other times you may need a push to get uncomfortable so you can learn new skills to get unstuck. I tailor your treatment to your individual needs. YOU are the authority on you.

I am a fan of cognitive therapies that focus on your thoughts and core beliefs as the source of suffering. I like and use a variety of techniques from various therapeutic models, which allows me to flexibly select the right fit of ideas that I think may work for you personally. The main therapeutic modalities I use are Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Therapy (CT & CBT), and Person-Centered Therapy.

In my life I've learned one thing that I keep having to learn over and over: not to take myself or life too seriously. Serious things happen, yes, and suffering is real and important. And I also know that we add so much more to our suffering with self-doubt, fear, insecurity and self-defeating thoughts and behaviors. I don't believe humor and counseling are mutually exclusive, and hope to help you learn to know, love, and accept yourself while taking steps to create a more fulfilling life.

I love walking and generally just being outside, and I love peanut butter. I love hiking and camping with my sweetheart and two dogs, who we treat like kids. If I could have any super power, I would be able to eat anything I want without any adverse health consequences. I love good food! Oh, and I'm a vegetarian with aspirations of being a vegan one day. My hero is my mom.

I like that Charlene is very focused and stays on task. She asked me what my goals were in the beginning and has kept to those goals. She both validates me, as well as helps me to question my own distorted thoughts that lead me to feel bad about myself as well as the things I might be contributing to a situation. I'm impressed with her counseling style.

I love working with Charlene, I was skeptical about getting therapy to begin with but being able to reach out and talk to Charlene has been a life saver. She knows exactly what to say and helps me sort through my problems in different ways depending on what I need that day.

As much as I understand the need and my need for therapy specifically, I have always been reluctant of getting therapy. Charlene is the first counselor I've ever had who doesn't make me hate therapy. I look forward to seeing her every time!

Charlene is very knowledgeable about my concerns with anxiety, I love that she understands and gives me other options
