About Me
I call myself a geek therapist. What this means is that I am comfortable and conversant in geek culture, and I believe that everyone is a geek about something. I am a 12-year veteran of the US Navy, and I got into counseling on the path to becoming a Chaplain for the military. I have completed the education necessary for chaplaincy, but that is not my calling anymore. I have worked with those in acute psychiatric distress for the past 4 years, with populations from 12 years old and up.
My therapeutic focus is on a combination of evidenced based practices. These include, but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which focuses on addressing thinking errors and self-sabotage in an effort to bring about changes in behavior; Dialectical Behavior Therapy which focuses on living in the now and teaches skills to help us do so; and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy which focuses on what we can do right now, in order to heal and move forward. I am very humanist in my approach to you as a client, strongly believing that you already have within you the seed to be the ultimate version of yourself. My role as therapist is to help you nurture and grow that seed, so that you can change your story.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Charles King. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Charles has been helping me out tremendously. I’ve been in and out of crisis mode for a long time and he’s really helping me remember how to reconnect with things that help pull me out of that. Thank you Charles
Charles’ help has been immensely valuable to me over the course of my healing journey. He has a broad range of understanding in many areas of psychology that I needed assistance in. Including dealing with past trauma, understanding healthy relationship habits, forming boundaries, even improving relationships with children and extended family.
He is prompt and professional but warm and understanding.
I would recommend him. Value him and deeply appreciate his service.
Charles listens, and yes, maybe sometimes that’s all one needs. However, he has the talent to teach you how to navigate when things are hopeless. Highly recommended.
for as short of a time as i had with charles he was very understanding and still showed interest to help despite how busy i normally am, i may not always be who i want to be but what matters is that he did help me in a way
He's great, understanding, and helpful!
Charles is very professional and helpful, validating my emotions and giving me several things to work on and practical applications and specific things to focus on for my mental health
Charles is very accommodating when it comes to the ways of communication. He was checking with me every day on how I felt and gave me tips every time I had a question. I have a lot of difficulties presently and he is working through them with me tirelessly trying to help me to get out of my head, helping me with the perspective, and helping me with sticking to the plan. I always feel that he listens and understands and give suggestions that are not conflicting with my believes. I can see a huge improvement after working with him for a week and look forward to continuing working with Charles.
Charles is a great therapist, he listens and really cares about the issues I am having. He follows up regularly and is very responsive. He offers great advice that gets me thinking until the next session.
I am not a therapist and I do not know what would be the better way to handle therapies. However, I do not feel Charles is taking the lead in trying to get to the root of the problem. Instead, he lets me choose the topics I want to talk about and he stays on the responsive side.
This review is after my third session, so maybe I am ahead of myself.
Charles is very professional and supportive and listens to my concerns and offers helpful suggestions.
Charles is very supportive, empathetic, and tailors the sessions to what you need. He listens when you need to vent and offers action items when you need to make a change. He also provides great insight and perspective.
Charles is very good at helping me apply techniques that I’ve learned to use in my day to day life. He really understands what I’m going through and makes sure he understands my goals from session to session and that we’re addressing each of them. He’s a really good guy, a great listener, and has helped me a ton.
I feel like Charles really listens to me, and supports me, something this is extremely important. He checks in on me, when I’ve been silent for a day or two, even though I feel like I’ve been needy. He is a great support, and I’m glad I have him in my corner.
Responsive, clear, and straightforward, he offers excellent guidance and listens to my concerns. He's very tech savvy and comfortable meeting online. He schedules quickly and is respectful of time.
Amazing. Simply amazing. A great listener, there to provide great recommendations when needed.
Charles is very intuitive and receptive. He has given me a lot of tools to work on.
