About me

With over twenty years experience I offer the support, guidance and skills needed to assist others in facing and overcoming the difficulties and struggles inevitable in our lives.  I view counselling as a journey; walking with others in exploring sources of the emotional pain and suffering that is way too common for so many, and as important, guiding them in applying practical skills and techniques that will enable recovery and moving toward the potential they may have lost sight of.   Counselling is about renewing hope that healing is possible and that better days are coming.

I believe each counselling session should include a Person Centered approach which emphasizes the vital importance of unconditional acceptance and deep empathy as the foundation in creating a safe and open environment for you to explore your concerns and struggles. I also am a strong believer in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which will help you to identify and challenge unproductive patterns of behavior and unhelpful thinking that can perpetuate your struggles and stressors and then assist you in learning and applying practical skills and techniques that will enable you to move toward healing and wholeness. I also like to use Schema Based Therapy which will explore sources of your unhealthy core beliefs that may have affected how you define yourself and how this may be affecting the various relationships in your life.

My experience includes working with children and teens with behavioral and emotional difficulties, leading drug court and community sentencing programs for those referred by the courts,  facilitating a program for domestic violence perpetrators. I served as a clinical director of a private counselling agency in Oklahoma. More recently I worked in a hospital setting on the acute adolescent unit and most recently I was working with adults in an intensive outpatient day treatment.

I was Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oklahoma, which is a qualification required to practice as a counsellor with each state overseeing the professional standards. Now, having recently moved the UK, I am a registered member of British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP).

Charlie is extremely knowledgeable and you can tell he brings a lot of experience to a session. He helped explain what was going on in the brain when I was experiencing certain emotions and gave me a lot of scientifically backed techniques to help with them. He provides plenty of useful and relevant resources that I found very helpful. He has a calm and non-judgemental demeanor. Very reliable. Many of the tools he has shown me have proven to be very effective in managing my emotions. I highly recommend him.

I had a short weekly therapy course with Charlie lasting approximately 4 months to get through a difficult time and try to change some of the ways I approach life matters. I was comfortable with Charlie. He was very helpful in asking good questions and challenging me to see things in a different light. I found him to be an excellent therapist. I’m now closer to being the kind of guy I wanna be and I’ll keep trying.

Charlie is a highly competent counselor and was instrumental in being a good guide along my journey to healing and bettering myself and situations I was focusing on. I've since made remarkable improvements in the areas of interest. He is a patient, kind guide who has a good steady hand in the alliance. He's not overbearing, but understanding, kind and allows for the integrity of the individual. His advice in areas I was working on was very helpful and I used it to experience good effects in my relating and new understandings.

Charlie clearly has extensive experience and a broad knowledge of tools and techniques that proved invaluable in helping me. This included discussing both current challenges and events of my past that may still have impact on the present. He provided clear guidance in the use of techniques to establish what my aims were with mental wellbeing and personal development, plus was very encouraging as we made good progress together. As a result I have overcome some significant obstacles and have experienced a clear improvement in my quality of life and thinking.
