Chelsea Culbert, LCSW
About me
Hi! My name is Chelsea and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Connecticut. I received my Masters in Social Work from UConn (Go Huskies!). My experience with in-person work has mostly centered around engaging the entire family in the healing process. I've worked with parents as they navigate the terrible twos and the unruly teenage years with particular attention to that co-parenting relationship. I've worked with families struggling with substance misuse and intimate partner violence. I help them establish safety and learn better methods of communication to develop a positive healthy co-parenting or intimate relationship. Regarding relationships, I determine the goal of treatment with the client - I have built up self-efficacy and self-esteem for an individual to feel comfortable leaving a relationship and I've helped heal past hurts so an individual can eliminate resentment to continue in their relationship. This focus on intimate partner violence and parenting has become my expertise. My style is to present as positive, yet direct. I primarily use methods from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Behavior Management. However, I have experience dating back to 2012 with a focus on sexual trauma, and in those situations I pull from victim advocacy work, Trauma Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure.
It is an exciting time to be working in this field as therapy is becoming easier for folks to access. I look forward to interacting with you in whatever way you feel comfortable - video, phone, and messages. I do work a day job, so most of my availability is early morning, evening, and weekend hours. Please send me a message and I can do my best to accommodate alternative live session times. I check messages at least once during each weekday. You are a priority and deserve healing, whatever that looks like for you.
