Hello and welcome to betterhelp.
I know this is a big step. Reaching out for help and support. Let me introduce myself. I am Cheryl . I have worked in the substance abuse field since 1986. I am a licensed alcohol and drug counselor and have been since 1997. I received my Certified Clinical Supervisors certificate in 2005. I graduated from Springfield College with my Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2008. I am a licensed mental health counselor since 2010. I work with individuals, couples and families. I meet the client where they are at. I utilize client centered therapy to help the clients identify their strengths by utilizing motivation interview and cognitive behavioral therapy. I work effectively with clients who suffer with symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD and other mental health issues. I have experience with working with adolescence, adults and the elderly. I help clients see that change is possible. At times life can be difficult, challenging and unpredictable. These factors influence our wellbeing, as well as the way we react to our circumstances. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process between a client and his or her therapist. As your therapist I will assist you in exploring personal, relational, mental health, drug or alcohol problems or any other issues that might be impacting your life.
My counseling philosophy is that, you are the expert in your own life. You being the expert means, that we will work together to come up with the best skills for you to move from the place you are to the place you want to be. We work together to help you learn skills to navigate from your current situation , to a new place in your life. I use Person-Centered and Strength-Based styles to help each person come up with skills needed to help you in your current situations. My role is to guide and support you in learning and implementing the skills and confidence needed to help you improve your overall life. Together, working as a team, We can come up with the best skills to ensure success. I am down to earth, and I make myself available, so that I can provide a listening ear, relevant feedback and support when needed. I look forward to meeting you and working together to ensure success.
My therapeutic style involves helping you to arrive at insight, strategies, and tools that you can begin using immediately to make positive change in your life. We don’t just sit and talk. I love to provide you with concrete tools wherever possible and help you to have a plan for the following days before our next session, if that is the pace you would like to move at. Most importantly, we are going to make sure we are making progress on goals that you have for yourself. I will be there to guide you, encourage you, possibly even challenge you if I feel you are unknowingly allowing obstacles to stand in your way.
You may find it helpful to know that I have a lot of experience being the client in a counseling relationship and I was very picky about what I looked for in my therapist/counselor. I am a person who needs to know I can say absolutely anything to my counselor and they won’t think any less of me. I need to feel understood, validated, and (I’ll admit) almost admired in their presence in order to feel that I can say things that I hold back from saying in my ordinary life. If this is the kind of relationship you would like to have with your counselor, too, then I understand you and you’ve come to the right place.
Together, we will address your individual needs and establish goals that promote growth and healing. I will provide a confidential place for disclosure, diagnostic and educational material, a treatment plan, and crisis intervention or referral services as needed. The duration of psychotherapy varies, depending on the client’s history, present circumstances, issues explored during treatment, and the mutually established goals for treatment. My motto is Empowering people. Let me help empower you.

Chery was responsive and provided support quickly and made herself available when I needed her support for a relationship issue related to substance abuse.
She has given me amazing articles to read that has really helped me in my thinking. ( self esteem )
I’ve texted with Cheryl, and even through text she’s made me feel like I was in the room with her. It’s lovely to finally be able to talk to someone I enjoy.
My first appointment with Cheryl was awesome - I have never gone to therapy before, but I really really enjoyed it! To me it was fun/nice to talk about everything that has been bothering me or stressing me out. I will be making more appointments for sure.
Cheryl is great. She gives helpful advice about my issues and ways to cope with them in between sessions. She also sends helpful articles and checks in in between sessions. She always makes herself available on the chat section when needed and is quick to respond. Highly recommend Cheryl!
Lots of helpful resources. Great communicator.
Cheryl is a great help! Very positive, very progress oriented with to-do lists, positive encouragement and self surveys. I really like how she gives me "homework" in between sessions, it helps me make progress and be accountable to myself.
Kind, empathetic, knowledgeable, great listener and excellent at what she does. Thankyou so much for you support
I’m extremely happy with Cheryl thus far. I feel better about some things and look forward to digging deeper into my issues. For the first time in a while I feel a bit of a weight coming off of my shoulders. It feels great to express and release all of these feelings and issues I’ve bottled inside for literally decades.
I am very pleased with this experience and Cheryl has been very helpful in this difficult time. Thank you.
I really enjoy my counselling sessions with Cheryl. I find Cheryl highly empathetic, patient and respectful. I don't feel judged when I talk to her. She is a great listener and asks good questions that make me reflect and analize my actions and views. I appreciate Cheryl sharing additional information with me between our sessions and checking in with me. She is a great councillor. I wish I could see Cheryl more than once a week and have longer sessions with her.
Cheryl has a warm, energetic presence and asks all the good questions, even though tough ones!
I felt very supported with Cheryl. Even though I did not share much as I was busy, I still felt like I had someone to listen to me. I recieved helpful tips and advice along the way, it was exactly what I needed. Thank you!

With two sessions completed I can already tell Cheryl is incredibly experienced. Cheryl is great at letting me vent and lends me honest and constructive advice while keeping my spirits high. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks, Cheryl!
I have loved my experience with Cheryl so far, she always responds to messages any time of the day, makes herself available and not only offers personal support and guidance but signposts to other relevant materials that could be helpful. I think that Cheryl is a wonderful counsellor and I would highly recommend.
It is still early days with my counselling sessions with Cheryl, but I find I am very comfortable talking to her about any problems and don't feel judged. I have confidence in her ability to suggest different strategies to support these issues. Cheryl always responds to messages in a timely manner and makes you feel supported.
Cheryl was very patient, approachable, and consistently shared helpful resources. I would recommend her to anyone.
I have had a great experience with better help. Lots of homework and reading if you want it. Always available or responding in a timely manner.
Cheryl has been great so far. It’s still early days but I have found her kind and very realistic. I like her straightforward approach and her positivity.
Looking forward to continuing this journey with her.
she’s a very understand person. sees both sides of things. one thing i ask from a person is to listen and she does that very well.
I spoke with Cheryl three times and messaged with her frequently over the course of a couple months. This was my first experience with counseling. Cheryl gave me exactly what I needed, pointing me in the right direction and giving me piles of information to chew on and tools to put into practice. She also helped me identify areas of my life that I need to work on that I was not previously aware of, like being able to accept compliments to improve my self-esteem. She listened to my concerns about depression, anxiety, grief, work--life balance, and anger patiently and gave me respectful and thoughtful feedback. Cheryl gave me the springboard I needed when I had no idea where to start.
Cheryl is amazing and I am very fortunate to be working with her.
I feel like I can talk to her and chat
She is amazing, very comfortable to talk to, understanding, and very nice, I personally feel better after everytime we talk.
Cheryl has been diligent and attentive. She is very on top of communication& responds to any of my messages promptly. We just started working together so I needs to peel back more layers of the core of what I'm working through, but so far its been great.
Cheryl is fantastic. She takes the time to listen and lightly guide. She is responsive and makes great recommendations. Her follow up has been fantastic and she helps keep me on track.
I found Cheryl very open and easy to talk to. She is incredibly responsive to messages and had convenient times for me to schedule live appointments. Her guidance and support was helpful and very practical, which I found helpful.
