About me
Welcome! I am so glad you have reached out for support. It is not always easy to do. I believe that just acknowledging need and asking for help, shows great strength. I encourage you to take your time in selecting a therapist. It is highly important to the success of your therapy to work with someone with whom you feel a connection. None of us humans connect with everyone, and that is ok. The purpose of this profile, is not to try to sell you on me, rather to inform you of my education, experience, and style as a therapist.
I am a clinical social worker, and have been providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families for 16 years. In my experience, I have found an eclectic approach to be beneficial to many of my previous and current clients. This simply means that I draw from more than one theoretical approach. We are all different, with different needs.
Having said that, I do have a particular interest in a therapy called “Transactional Analysis” (I know it sounds complicated, but stay with me). This is a type of therapy where you and I would work together to “analyze” (or look at in a detailed way) your interactions with others, or your “transactions”. We would then use this information, as a basis for understanding why you interact with others the way that you do. Understanding yourself better, and addressing what is not working for you, can make for a much more pleasant journey through life. This approach would be appropriate for individuals and couples, as well as parents, and families.
I am fiercely passionate about people, and assisting them in addressing their needs, so they can live the life they want and deserve to live. I firmly believe that laughter is a healing and sustaining element. It helps to ground us, clearing a path to new insight. You will find humor interwoven into my approach, along with compassion, and respect. I am by no means just a passive listener. Rather, I believe we all want and need feedback, as well as to be heard. Don’t we all just want to know that someone "gets" us ? That they understand what we are saying and where we are coming from? Once this happens, I believe needs can be uncovered and the work can begin.
I would be happy to talk with you to discuss your therapeutic needs. It is then that we can determine, together, if i could adequately provide the assistance you need.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Cheryl Mitchell. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
I was unsure what to expect from BH and the online mode of counseling. Cheryl has made this first experience very helpful and productive. She strikes a good balance between listening well and providing specific observations and suggestions. My most important relationship has notably improved over the past couple of months, largely due to Cheryl's counseling and its application.

I’m happy to be paired with Cheryl. She has a great sense of humor which is displayed at the perfect times during our conversations and she makes therapy easy. I’m a first timer and I feel at ease. She asks the right questions at the right time, in the right way to make you think and feel confident about speaking.
