About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor based in Chicago, IL. My experience comes from providing direct mental health and behavioral counseling for adults with a variety of presenting issues including substance use, trauma, mood disorders (anxiety, depression), shame, guilt, anger, grief & loss, and relationship issues.
I approach the therapeutic relationship with an acute sensitivity and respect for multi/cross-cultural factors. I use a strengths-based and collaborative treatment approach with each of my clients. I believe in leveraging a client’s self-knowledge and will always meet clients where they are emotionally, cognitively, and physically. I promote living life in accordance with one’s system of values and goals in my practice. Working with clients to be able to walk through discomfort toward the ability to be present, to pause, and to take committed action….to do what matters.
My experience is varied and across settings, as I have provided individual and group therapy in community mental health agencies, hospitals, and day treatment programs. I believe that we are all products of our closest relationships, our environment, our family systems, and every moment that leads to the present us. I strive to treat the therapeutic relationship, and you, with compassion, respect, and warmth.
My therapy style and approach draws influence from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Logotherapy and Twelve-Step Facilitation (TSF). A top priority for me is to meet you where you are and calibrate treatment and my approach to what will work best for us as we work together to meet your goals. Whether you are working towards enlightenment and insight or symptom-relief and improved function, my hope is that we can collaboratively work together to achieve it!
I look forward to working with you!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Chris Beerman. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Chris has been great so far. He’s a great listener and he’s been a big help in the last 3 weeks I’ve had him
Thank you so much Chris for taking the time out your busy life to assist me. I finally can say someone has actually helped me.
Chris genuinely listens to me and tries to find the core of my issues
Extremely patient and understanding. Thank you Chris
Chris Beerman is a really understanding and patient therapist. He always takes the time to figure out the root of your issues and give you the proper tools to work through them. He also replies extremely quickly and has flexible time slots. I highly recommend him!
We have had a few sessions and he is a much better fit than previous therapists.
Chris is very professional, kind and understanding. He gives very insightful feedback and is able to arrive at the root cause of any issue - a skill I am hoping to learn from him. We often laugh together and I always feel lighter after my sessions with him, having gained a much better understanding of my own emotions and patterns.
I was struggling a great deal at my first appointment with Chris. Chris listened to my long story. He is able to get to the root of every problem I am having in a very respectful and kind manner. I feel much better since that first appointment with Chris. His guidance helps me understand more about myself and I am learning how to improve relationships with the people I love.
After a long time of going without help; I settled down with BetterHelp and Chris, I finally feel able to talk about my mental health in a safe, comfortable environment which Chris provides.
Thank you for caring and remembering things we talked about. It means you care and makes me trust you more
Chris has a very kind voice which is very soothing - so it makes me feel comfortable talking about my issues with him. He also makes me feel that he listens, and shares clarifications which makes me feel he wants to understand my situation. However, it is too early to say if his methods are working.
Working with Chris has been both easy & impactful! He is caring, sensitive, compassionate, insightful and committed to helping you. I appreciate and have greatly benefited from his strengths-based approach - He has empowered me in my mental health journey in ways that other therapy / therapists haven’t before. Would highly recommend!
He is a calming presence and a great listener
Chris makes my day every time I talk to him, he is very polite. Very caring and understanding, I don’t think I have ever spoke to a counselor that has ever treated me like he has. He takes the time to message me back and check up on me. I feel like he feels what I am going through and that helps me talk to him. He’s very easy to speak to. I appreciate him very much!
Chris has mostly listened and that is what I have needed. I like how he has obviously been ready my journal entries that I share and I don't do that on purpose but actually find it helpful for him to have access to what my mind is filled with. He's helped find other resources and given me strength to hold my ground in ways I never have before.
