About me

Hello! I am a clinical psychologist licensed in New York and Missouri. If you're looking for help here, I congratulate you on taking that first proactive step to get help with problems you may have had for a while.

I have worked with adults and older teens for many years, either as a therapist or as a researcher studying how best to help people with psychological issues. In my clinical career, I have worked in diverse settings, involving clients who ranged from the very wealthy to college students to the impoverished, from urban dwellers to suburbs to rural. It has been my privilege to help these clients resolve their issues with depression, anxiety and stress, addiction, relationships/trust issues, a history of childhood trauma, adoption and foster care, and fears of abandonment.

In addition, many of my clients have been struggling with significant life transitions that impose practical challenges as well as threats to self-esteem or self-acceptance:
- older persons coping with aging
- patients who are newly disabled, or struggling with chronic pain
- LGBTQIA+ clients coming to terms with their sexual orientation/gender identity
- parents struggling to understand their LGBTQIA+ children
- American-raised clients in cultural conflict with the expectations of immigrant parents
- clients feeling ostracized for their religious beliefs or experiencing crises of faith
- psychiatric patients adjusting to life after discharge from psychiatric hospitals
- ex-convicts adapting to release from incarceration
- clients caring for parents/relatives with dementia
- clients grieving the death of a loved one

No matter your personal issue, I see every person as someone to be treasured and listened to. Together we will find your strengths, and use them to help you master your specific challenges. Depending on those challenges and your preferences, I use a number of therapeutic approaches: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. Using these approaches, I hope to provide you with tools and insights that you can use even in later life when you don't have a therapist. Along the way, our work together should be fun, and help you feel hopeful about the future. If you're ready, there's so much to look forward to!
