My name is Christopher Witman, LCPC. I have 10 years of experience as a practicing therapist and 21 years of experience in the human service field. I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from Saint Joseph's University in 1997 and my Masters of Arts degree in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in 2009. Since becoming a licensed counselor, I have worked primarily in community mental health in Baltimore City providing therapeutic services to the city's most vulnerable populations. I have also served as a therapist at an LGBTQ-centered health clinic, an inpatient psychiatric facility, as well as a substance abuse treatment center.
As a therapist, my approach mirrors my belief about people in general; No two people are the same, but all people deserve the same respect and empathy.
How a therapist treats a patient should be fluid and accommodating to the patient as an individual. No single theoretical approach is effective for every person, so I tailor my strategies to suit your unique personality, values and experiences.
Regardless of the patient's issues or personality, I maintain a therapeutic environment rooted firmly in empathy and safety. Therapy is only effective if trust is established between therapist and patient. Trust can only exist in a relationship where the patient feels safe, secure, heard, understood, respected and validated.
Therapy is your time for you. You use it as you see fit.
You are in control. We can talk about the weather for ten minutes or delve into deep-seeded childhood trauma for hours. It's all up to you and where you want to go.
There are no wrong answers, no judgement and no problem or issue is insignificant. All issues and problems are treated with reverence.
I have thousands of hours of experience providing therapy and have treated hundreds of patients, but I haven't heard it all, because I have yet to hear from you. But if you give me a chance to listen and learn who you are and why you hurt, together we can help you heal.
I'm looking forward to working with you!
- Stress, Anxiety

Christopher has been, and continues to be, a wealth of knowledge and understanding. Since beginning counseling with him in February, he has helped me learn and grow so much as a person. His counseling style is exactly what I was looking for; someone who can facilitate a space for me to lay down my current or past issues, and help me find my own answer to them. He's never pushy, always allowing me to take as much time as I need to respond to a message, but I also know that I can contact him at any time and he will respond quickly. I'm currently continuing counseling with him, but I absolutely wanted to get the word out there about just how great he is!!
I feel like a difficult case, but Christopher Whitman is excellent at getting to the root of what's causing me the most trouble at the moment and helping me work on that. I feel like he's willing to dig deeper than some counselors, to really get to the heart of my struggles and help me heal from within.
I’ve only been with Christopher for a short time but I have valued you every session that I have spent with him. Christopher is very insightful and I loved the way he made me look at things from a different angle, which helped with some breakthroughs. I would definitely recommend Christopher and once again thank you for all your help!
Christopher Witman has been the best counselor I worked with so far.
He's been able to help me in a short period of just one month by
- providing well designed skills training materials
- being considerate regarding my difficult past experiences
- being capable of helping me integrating my personal experiences into a bigger picture
- bringing fresh perspectives and showing that there is freedom and choice where I seen none
- showing empathy and creating a sense of safety and trust
What I was able to learn for and about life with and from Christopher in this short period of time was way more than I was expecting from counseling.
I hope he'll write books so more people can benefit from his wonderful attitude towards people and life in general.
Thank you Christopher!
There are people who touch our lives at certain points in our lives and we are forever grateful. Chris has been one of those people for me. I had reached a low point in my life when I finally reached out for help and started counseling with Chris. It is the best decision I've ever made. In just a short period of time Chris has helped me to experience unimaginable growth. I am learning to identify and stop negative thoughts and emotions by replacing them with positive, healthy and self-affirming ones. Chris has helped me develop a wide range of healthy coping mechanisms to deal with every day challenges.
I am really grateful to have had Mr. Witman as a therapist. He instantly interpreted a majority of my problems for me when I could not even understand them myself. Like others have mentioned, he really makes you think deeper on your actions and their consequences. His method of teaching should easily benefit anyone as he always digs to the root of your problems and resolves it. I have seen therapists before and they weren't as perceptive as Mr. Witman is. In even just a few short sessions with him, if you're the pessimistic type, you'll notice how your whole outlook on life is really changed.
I completely trust Chris as my counselor. He has really made a huge difference in how I approach issues and is extremely knowledgeable. I feel very confident in his abilities as a professional!
Chris is a great listener and is able to help me put my concerns into perspective, helping me to see the forest for the trees. Very grateful for his help and advice.
Respectful and listens to your needs and wants. Very helpful.
Chris is very understanding, but he helps me get to the issues quickly. He has listened to me talk and has been able to get to what the heart of the matter really is. He is making me think and feel instead of avoiding my issues. His personality is very low key, but he is very intuitive.
Chris is very kind and challenges you to think outside of the box. He gives good ideas for coping skills. Always on time and reminds me that if needed outside of appointment time just contact him through website.
I only had a few sessions with Christopher, but it was incredible how much better I felt both in my personal life and my relationship with people around me. He definitely shows interest in your life and you feel that he cares. I think that is very important when it comes to a counselor; because it makes you feel more comfortable to talk to them and more easily express how you feel. I am taking a break from counseling for now, because I feel I have resolved what I needed to resolve. But if I do come back again, I will definitely continue working with Christopher.
Christopher is amazing. I had initially spent a few weeks trying to find someone on BetterHelp that could really help me better understand myself and why I do things that make me feel bad on a regular basis. I'm not good with words when it comes to difficult topics, but what I can say is that you should most definitely build a long-term relationship with him. Don't stop on the first two sessions because you would lose out on a lot of incredible insight that can only come from someone who's been able to dive in. This is super important to me. I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't wholeheartedly trust him, so go ahead and book a session with him! I'll be back soon as well. Thanks.
He is very friendly. He will actually grasp the root cause of problems and will treat accordingly.
Even after a few weeks of speaking with Christopher, I have gained so much knowledge about myself and how to deal with my stress and anxiety issues. I will use all the tips and pointers I have learned from him in my everyday life, as they’ve helped me so much over such a short amount of time. I really recommend Christopher because he is very attentive, knows the right questions to ask and is extremely supportive throughout the process. Thank you so much!
I'm very happy to have been so lucky to be matched with such a great counselor. Christopher was patient and calm with me, honest, insightful, knowledgeable, and a really good guide in conversations. I feel our talks truly helped me view my life and problems from a different angle that has changed the way I feel about them. I leave our last session feeling like I've really made progress.
Hi everyone, it is not easy to decide you can't deal with problems by yourself. I've been postponing it for a long time because I was scared of talking to someone that could be judgmental and make me feel even worst. However, Christopher have been reading all my problems and giving some professional inside without making me feel dumb or inadequate. I still have a long way to go but I do get calmer after our sessions, and right now that's what I need. I can also see after our conversations that there's always another side to it that I might have not been seeing in first place. Highly recommend him. Thanks Chris!
I am very satisfied, and impressed! So many counselors mean well but haven't reached Christopher's level of presence and clarity: they'll delay and make you go through tedious preambles that waste precious time, just because they're not sure what to do to help you. Christopher immediately dove in, confident that he has both the personal (self-esteem, calm, clear thinking, empathy) and professional skills (proficiency with multiple therapy modalities) to help you identify and resolve what you've been struggling with. I heartily recommend him!
