About me

Hello! My name is Christopher Gabel, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) practicing out of Denver, Colorado. I completed my Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas in 2016, and I am currently working as an Intervention Counselor for at-risk students in Adams 12 Five Star Schools. Prior to my career as a counselor, I worked as a middle school teacher for nine years. My time in the public school setting has provided me with extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults. In the clinical setting, I have worked with clients whose ages range from late elementary school through adulthood. I have training in and specialize in working with clients who are experiencing or have experienced depression, anxiety, anger, grief/loss, relationship conflicts, additions, gender/identity concerns, lack of motivation, abuse and trauma, life transitions and men’s mental health concerns. In addition, I have worked closely with the LGBTQ+ population and adults in their 20s and 30s.

I would describe my approach to counseling as client-centered and goal-oriented. My initial goal as a counselor is to build a professional relationship with you so that you will feel safe, respected and valued – this is achieved through my warm, empathetic and non-judgmental disposition. I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition, I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Profession (CCTP) and a Certified Addictions-Informed Mental Health Professional (CAIMAP). Through our time together, we will explore the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors to identify the way that these factors may be negatively affecting your life. We will work to relearn maladaptive coping mechanisms through the utilization of practical skills such as Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance & Interpersonal Relationships. We will work collaboratively to challenge your patterns of thinking and behavior to promote positive change in the perceptions you have about yourself, others and the environment around you.

It takes courage to make yourself vulnerable to the counseling process, but I am here to support, empower, educate and challenge you through our time together. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with you in making what I hope will be a positive and lasting change in your life.

I wasn’t sure if I needed therapy, but I gave it a try and it’s been a great decision. Chris is respectful, caring, and very knowledgeable! I’d highly recommend!

I have only been working with Christopher for a short time but I think he’s a really awesome counselor and it shows that he has a lot of experience. He’s very easy to trust and a great listener as well as having the perfect balance of empathy, reasoning, and helpfulness. I believe that he really cares about his clients and honestly offers really great perspective as a clinician. I am happy to have been matched with him for my first time trying therapy.

So far we have only met once, but that initial meeting was great and Christopher was very active in listening and asking the right questions to help me dig into my thoughts and emotions. Great counselor and even better person
