Cindy Johnson

About Me

I have been working as a Marriage and Family therapist since 2010. I was licensed in New Mexico for most of my career, but transferred to Washington state in 2016. I have worked with individuals and families from a variety of backgrounds and income levels and even served as a crisis counselor for a detention center for several years. Depression, anxiety, family/relationship problems, parenting issues, substance abuse, and Bipolar Disorder are part of my regular case load. I also enjoy working with clients who just feel "stuck" and need some support to find their way forward in life.

I try to keep my sessions friendly and welcoming. I enjoy humor and feel that it is a healthy coping skill to be utilized. Every problem has a solution waiting to be found and my goal is to help clients find their own unique solutions to life's most complicated issues. My practice includes cognitive behavioral approaches as well as mindfulness and solution focused therapy. I treat individuals as unique cases and avoid lumping people into categories. You are the expert in your life. My job is to help you see options that may have been missed and help you move forward.

Therapy can be an intimidating process. My goal is to make it comfortable, helpful, and maybe even a little fun.

I'm pleasantly surprised how well the method(s) of communication work! Cindy is very down to earth, warm (in both video and print) with an encouraging manner. She is clear in these communications as well.

Cindy is extremely knowledgeable, funny, and approachable. She is the first counselor I’ve ever had and made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. She also uses a lot of analogies that make complex ideas relatable to everyday life. I’d definitely recommend her!

Written by B.R. on Jun 01, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 2 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety

My first counselor experience years ago was terrible. They made me feel abnormal and scared. Cindy has been wonderful at verbalizing the thoughts I throw at her, and making me understand it’s normal, and there are tools for my racing mind.

I’ve been trying to find a counselor for years who would actually help me, not just allow me to relive past trauma over and over.
Cindy has been very helpful listening to me and offering advice when warranted.
I legit get excited that I have a new message because it means I’m taking steps to healing and that feels really good.

Cindy is an amazing therapist. She is very kind and understanding, very helpful and attentive to problems. She offers lots of different ways to work through issues. Ever since I started talking with her I have felt better about myself and less worried about the future. She helps you see things in a way you may not have thought of before and that can be really helpful for people like me. She really has helped me in a tremendous way and I dont think I would be where I am without her.

Written by B.R. on Mar 27, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 1 year and 1 month on issues concerning stress, anxiety, family conflicts, eating disorders, self esteem, anger management, and compassion fatigue

Cindy is knowledgeable in the care she provides. She cares for me in a holistic manner and encourages physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Not that she forces religion but allows her clients to find meaning of life. She goes above and beyond by sending worksheets and "checking-in" messages. God is who I turn to first when I'm having a difficult time and while I patiently give it up to God (my stress, anxiety, fear), I know Cindy is there for me 24/7 and also shows just as much compassion for me...helps me to stay grounded.

Cindy sends very extensive messages that make me feel understood and heard. She also does follow up messages when I'm in a period where I'm not responsive and I feel security in our patient-therapist relationship.

Cindy Johnson is a good match for what I was looking for when signing up at Better Help. The flexible schedule allows me to add therapy and counseling into my weekly routine without feeling like it is "one more thing" to do. Talking to Cindy Johnson helps me process and sort out all of the stress in my head. I feel better and feel like it is very much worth the time and money. I've done in person therapy and now Better Help and I can say that both were exactly what I needed.

Cindy has been very understanding with my issues and has helped me reframe my thinking. She has a way of speaking her own opinion, but also being respectful. She doesn't hold any punches when she is being honest. Which is good. I do recommend Cindy if you are looking for a therapist that will listen to you and help see issues that you didn't think of.

Written by T.I. on Nov 22, 2019 after counseling with Cindy for 3 weeks

Cindy is outstanding. Thoughtful, patient, open minded, caring, rational and supportive. I could make a list a mile long of her good qualities and how I value her as a therapist and simply as another human being. She is literally a life saver and one I’m lucky to have.

Written by K.E. on Nov 20, 2019 after counseling with Cindy for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, family conflicts, grief, eating disorders, self esteem, and compassion fatigue

Cindy is amazing. Her response time to my lengthy and random emails is almost immediate. She even reaches out when I don't respond. I feel that I can get more information out in an email format than a live session, but I need to do more of those. I really appreciate having her in my corner to listen to me and help me see things more clearly. I'm really thankful she's my counselor.

Written by M.O. on Nov 01, 2019 after counseling with Cindy for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, intimacy-related issues, self esteem, anger management, career difficulties, and bipolar disorder

Cindy is straightforward and blunt. She is respectful but pushes on sensitive topics. She highly encourages growth as a person and is very supportive when need be. 10/10 would recommend (and have).

Cindy has been a wonderful guide through my trials. She is thoughtful in her approach, and honest in her feedback. I couldn't have asked for a better counselor and therapist during this extremely challenging time in my life.
