About me

I believe the counseling process should be a team effort. As such, I am excited to work together with all of my clients to assist them in overcoming their issues. This includes helping to empower them to be able to overcome any similar issues in the future. I also know counseling can be an intimidating process. This is especially so when being faced with sharing deeply personal things over the internet. As your counselor, I will put a conscious effort into creating a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment. I am always open for questions, comments or concerns and will work hard to make this a smooth and comfortable process.

I graduated from my Masters program in 2013 and have since been working in various fields of counseling. I have specific experience within domestic violence, private practices, inpatient drug and alcohol rehab, and employee assistance programs. I am a big proponent in using technological means for therapy and very much believe in the benefits of counseling being accessible and provided in a way to make clients feel comfortable.

In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). I practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Based Therapy, Rational Emotive Based Therapy (REBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and more. I have experience with adolescents, adults, groups and families. I have worked closely with issues such as anxiety, depression, domestic violence, grief and loss, mood disorders, personality disorders, motivation and addiction.

When I am not counseling, I am an avid watcher of television and movies. I enjoy attending film festivals, binge watching TV shows, and listening to film podcasts. I hope to get to know more about you as your counselor and help complete your goals in becoming the best version of yourself.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Cody Villafana. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Cody, thus far, has been pretty helpful. He sincerely seems to want to help and has, definitely for the amount of time we’ve been talking. He really gives me hope that we can come up with a way to make me feel better about myself as well as possibly achieve certain things I want to achieve not only mentally but professionally as well.

Cody has been fantastic to work with. He's completely willing to dive into deeper conversations about what I'm feeling, which makes his therapeutic approach feel closer to what I'd get in a face-to-face session. He gives positive feedback on accomplishments and progress, while still encouraging forward momentum in therapy. I highly recommend him for those that want a comprehensive therapy experience.

Cody is very professional, and I enjoy our discussions! He is definitely good at what he does and I would recommend him to anyone.

I can openly discuss my life with Cody and I'm not worried about any judgement or counterproductive response. His responses indicate that he comprehends and validates my feelings and experience and he leads me with questions to think about what it is that I want and how to get there. I like this approach because I was recently in a very controlling relationship and I find myself rebelling against any demands or directions that I am given, but helping me plot my own path and finding the resources I need to get there is much more helpful.

He has been very responsive and helpful, and we're working on techniques and towards a goal which is getting clearer.

Cody's a great, easy conversationalist that doesn't make you feel at all judged, preached to, or self-conscious. It simply feels like talking with a friend, that may have better advice. He speaks like a "person" less like a rigid professional that can read cold, and has made me feel totally comfortable sharing my ups and downs. I look forward to "venting" to him just as much as I look forward to hearing his thoughts. Truly can't recommend him enough.
