Colin Hammer

About Me

My name is Colin Hammer, and I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in both Illinois and Oregon. I earned my Bachelors of Social Work degree from Southern Illinois University in 1992 and my Master’s degree in Social Work from Portland State University in 2001. Throughout my 25 years of practice I have worked in many different settings with individuals of different ages, ethnicities, cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds. I have been able to help people who are struggling with an array of personal issues such as stress and anxiety, life changes, age-related, LGBTQ, caregiver stress, career difficulties, chronic illness, and end of life issues. I believe that every person has value and is worthy of kindness, and being a good listener and allowing people to be heard and unconditionally accepted are the cornerstones of a successful therapeutic relationship.

I am excited to be working with Better Help because it allows me to help people outside of the traditional brick and mortar office setting, making it convenient and comfortable for people to connect with a counselor on their terms. Please feel free to message me anytime through Better Help. I check messages throughout the day and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Colin has been a huge help. I have gone through an extremely difficult year, and having someone to talk to has been incredibly important. I've had therapists in the past who have been unhelpful, or made me feel as if I were a project to be worked on. Colin doesn't ever make me feel this way. I always feel heard, respected and thoroughly capable of helping myself get back on track after meeting with Colin.

Colin is great. Attentive, responsive and a wealth of advice. Friendly and professional too. He always got right down to work when we met, and he provided follow-up material between sessions. I strongly recommend him for anyone needing to break through negative thinking patterns or just needing someone to listen to them.

I really enjoyed working with Colin. I felt that he listened to what I had to say, and he thoughtfully challenged my thinking to bring me to new perspectives. I appreciated his patience and kind, supportive words, and he helped me come to some much needed realizations. I could tell that he really cared about me as a person, and genuinely wanted to help me progress and get better. I definitely recommend Colin!
