About me

Welcome. I'm Colleen Bergren.
Counseling allows for a healthy space to process, discover, grow, and even reinvent the way we encounter everyday barriers.
The feeling of hopelessness and shame can often weigh down the ability to complete day to day tasks. Taking the steps towards counseling can be scary and feel intrusive. However, there are ways to achieve a new perspective and approach to the everyday tasks or interactions which now feel overwhelming. I look to help clients identify, motivate, and generalize new tools that match to their comfort level. In the ability to partner with my clients, I look to support the identification of achievable and tangible goals. The capitalization of your ability to cope with emotional distress and explore the processes independently is what I encourage.
I am licensed in Mental Health Counseling. I specialize in family counseling, crisis counseling, and life transition counseling.
I have worked with in-crisis populations of children, pre-teens, adolescents, and adults in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Kingston, Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster Counties, and throughout New York State.

For 9 years I have provided in home, community based, crisis interventions to the most at-risk populations utilizing a dynamic approach. Prior to this is worked in similar preventative or residential based programs. I have worked with a range of consumers to include one-on-one, family, group, and couples utilizing a dynamic approach. The training underneath the models which I have been trained, has allowed my approach to counseling to be at the pace needed, to push through the barriers identified, and to do so in a way that is sustainable.
