About Me
My name is Craig Schweon and I am a clinical psychologist licensed in California, also in Virginia. I am a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and have board certification as a National Certified Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors. I have been working in the field for well over 30 years and have extensive prior experience in community mental health, in consulting in long-term care settings and have provided a range of services to different ages and populations. In my private office for many years I have helped clients from adolescence through the older years, including many young and middle-aged adults, as well as couples and families. I do supervise clinical students and teach in the graduate counseling field.
I would describe my approach as integrative, but focused and I use a humanistic and existential base to understand the feelings and issues clients present. I will as appropriate utilize a variety of cognitive and behavioral strategies build on understanding others to help clients with attention to their current thinking and actions that can help and with goals. I will draw on a variety of other approaches including attention to how past experiences may have affected current thinking and functioning, and can help support client growth now.
I feel that with the good connection that I work to build with sensitivity and warmth, clients can move toward goals they have and with the support needed. I am ready to help clients start from where they are are and move forward.

Although it took me several weeks to respond to Dr. Schweon (due to work), what I appreciated about him is that he didn't give up on trying to get in contact with me. When I finally respond to his questions, he responded back in a timely manner as well. I think it's a good sign when your counselor tries every way possible to get in touch with you. To me, it shows that he was willing to listen and really wanted to help.
I am pleased with the deep listening and the safety that I felt in Dr. Schweon's presence. His reflections and communication demonstrated that he took what I said seriously. I found it helpful to talk with him during a time of transition in my life.
I am thankful for his ability to ask focused questions which help me do my own work.
Dr. Acheson is a great counselor. I really appreciate him taking time out to listen. I really enjoy our weeklong check ins.
