About Me

Hi, My name is Cindy. Thank you for looking at my profile.

Before I tell you about my experience and education, I would like to tell you a little bit about my approaches to counseling. First and foremost, please know that your healing and your journey is important to me. Therefore, along the way I will ask you if my approaches are working for you and if you are comfortable with them. I will also welcome your feedback at any time as well. That being said, I am trained in both traditional and non-traditional counseling techniques. I like to use both. I am formally trained in Client Centered ( Carl Rogers ) techniques. These techniques are designed to help you feel heard and have your feelings validated. Please know that you deserve this. I also have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which focuses on ways in which your thinking may be causing you stress/distress.

I love a holistic approach to therapy, therefore, I received extra training in the Expressive Arts. This may sound scary to those of you who are not artists, but being an artist has nothing to do with expressive art. Expressive art is a means of expressing yourself and discovering your true inner feelings, inner voice and inner power. Instead of just talking about your issues/concerns, I would encourage you to draw them, paint them, dance them out, write them out,. etc. Whatever feels comfortable for you. The whole point of these modalities, is to move blocked energy (issues) out of your body which holds memory. Memories are not just stored in your brain. The body remembers and the body reacts. Especially to trauma. But you don't have to have been traumatized to benefit from these techniques. Expressive Art can help you with self esteem issues, depression, anxiety, motivation, life decisions, career choices, eating disorders and sleeping problems. No one ever has to see your artwork or see you move in an expressive and meaningful way.

Ideally, I like to combine both traditional therapies with some form of the Expressive Arts. They reinforce each other. But, ultimately, it is up to you and what works best for you. I also like to teach various powerful visualizations.

I received my Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling from Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts in January of 2001. I became licensed in 2007. I received a Certificate in The Facilitation of Expressive Arts from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island in 2007. I have over 17 years of experience working with both men and women and with families and children of all ages.

I look forward to working with you.
Thank you and Namaste, (the spirit in me honors the spirit in you)
Cindy

Cynthia is wonderful to work with! She gives great guidance, perspective and most of all a comfortable space to talk through both the heavy and the lighthearted topics.

After working with Cynthia for a couple of months, I was able to feel incredibly comfortable with her. She gives honest advice, and is a candid person which makes her very easy to relate to. Cynthia helped me deal with some life changes I had been struggling with, all while offering objective thoughts and probing me to think about situations differently. I’ve enjoyed my conversations with her, and she has been a positive addition during so many changes!

I have really enjoyed working with Cynthia Robinson! I have had multiple therapy experiences in person, and I am really enjoying my sessions! She uses a number of different approaches including the expressive arts and CBT, all of which I have found incredibly helpful. She is very responsive to messaging and available for phone sessions. I like how we can opening discuss my goals, progress, and reasons for wanting therapy. I am excited to see my personal growth as I continue to work with her!

I feel so grateful to have Cynthia to listen, advise and guide me through these last few months following my husbands affair and the end of my 20 year marriage. Her support and reassurance helped me immensely during this process. She helped me not only with the emotional support but guidance in how to move forward. I cannot thank her enough for her empathy and support during this time.

Cynthia has quickly become one of my closest confidantes and advisors in the world of relationships and general mental health. When I had a natural fear that I would be judged or poorly advised, she's always been there in a neutral but validating and positive way. She checks in with me often and makes me feel like I'll always have that support from her, no matter what. I'm so happy to have found her.

Cynthia is a very good therapist- always available ready to listen, she analyses carefully what the issues are, and gives helpful advice. She helped to find where the real problem was that prevented me to move forward in life.

Written by N.I on Jan 03, 2017 after counseling with Cynthia for 4 days on issues concerning stress, anxiety, family, eating, parenting, and anger

Cindy is a wonderful and understanding person to talk to.

All I needed was probably an outsider to hear me and give me their unbiased point of view and that’s what she did. I needed to talk to someone, share my problems and see if actually there’s another human being who gets my problems or I’m going insane.

I’m grateful for her advice and the time she took to read my messages.

I’m also impressed by the fact that she assessed the situation accurately and helped me make a decision regarding quitting or not counseling. When you don’t need it anymore or at all, she’s got the integrity to say so and not keep you there just so that you keep paying for the service.

Cynthia's insight and experience have helped me tremendously in a very short time. I know I can be honest about my eating behaviors without any judgment, and when I backslide a bit, she has helped me keep perspective and encouraged me to keep moving forward. The meditation and affirmation exercises she prescribed have helped me to relax and let go of some of my anxiety and self doubt.

It's nice to know that with my busy schedule, I can write to Cynthia when I have time, and she replies promptly. This method of therapy is much better for me since I have always had a hard time fitting appointments into my schedule. She's been wonderful to work with!
