Daisy Martinez-DiCarlo

About Me

Welcome and congratulations on prioritizing yourself and your emotional wellbeing. It’s not always easy to reach out for help, yet it is a strength when we can recognize our needs and request support. Self-care is necessary especially during difficult times in our lives.

I am an experienced licensed mental health counselor who wants to support you to cope with life's challenges.

Our daily lives have become disrupted due to the changes and losses brought about by the pandemic. Life feels different because we have lost a lot of our roles and even parts of our identity. Many of us are worried about our health and safety and for our loves ones' health and safety and we have suffered the loss of loved ones and the loss of our connection with others because we are less able to socialize in person in the way we are accustomed to doing. Many people also have suffered socioeconomic losses and losses as a result of racial and sociocultural injustices related to the current times in which we are living.

I am here to offer help through teletherapy.

I use a strengths-based approach which means that instead of viewing people through a critical or judgmental lens, I pay attention to the inner strengths and inner resources which we all have. I view people as having innate strengths to which they are not always warmed up or connected. We will collaborate to help you to identify your strengths, to label and manage your emotions and to help you to access new roles which will help you to find new and adequate responses to life's challenges by helping you to find your voice.

I am trained in psychodrama and I am a provisional, certified psychodramatist. In a typical individual or group session, we will warm up by using breathing exercises or doing a body scan, check in about how you are feeling and do something to help you that involves action. By action, I mean that in addition to talking about how you feel, I will connect with you and actively listen by offering "doubling" statements that may help us to better understand your feelings. When we feel seen and understood in action, we are better able to face life's challenges. Also, when we feel seen and understood by being doubled, then we are able to role reverse with others in a way that helps us to resolve conflicts and build interpersonal relationships. Action techniques such as doubling and role reversal help us to create new and adequate ways of solving life's problems. For example, in addition to talking about a conflict you are having, we can also role play it.

With couples, I can support you to role reverse with your partner which helps to build empathy and strengthen relationships.

You will find that I am very compassionate, playful and creative and that I bring my playfulness, compassion and creativity to my work with my clients. I am very respectful and I believe that all people have the potential to find their inner confidence and inner courage with an appropriate level of support.

I look forward to working with you.

Daisy holds a beautiful space for me to be my whole self, find my center, explore my vulnerability, and grow in a good direction. I am so grateful for her thoughtful questions, gentle affirmations, and somatic processing exercises. I highly recommend Daisy! I have processed so much with her support, and love the way she understands my cultural identity.

I have absolutely thrived under the care of Mrs. Daisy. She’s incredibly professional, kind and she’s always more than able to help me figure out what I’d like to focus on myself for the week and find ways to improve with the relationships that I have with both friends and family. I genuinely enjoy being able to work with her as I work towards being able to better myself during these difficult times.

Daisy is amazing. She is kind, patient and understanding. She is not judgmental and I instantly felt like I was in a safe space when I started working with her. She has helped me understand the tools I already possess and given me additional tools to add to me belt. 10 out of 10!
