About me

I am a clinical social worker with over thirty years of experience and am licensed in both Iowa and Minnesota. I have a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from the University of illinois and a Master of Social Work in Clinical Social Work from the University of Iowa. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings including primary healthcare, in-home, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, residential facilities, corrections, and outpatient counseling centers. Since March of 2020, I have offered counseling services online and have become certified as a Clinical Telemental Health Provider. I have become quite comfortable and familiar with online counseling.

My clinical interests include, but are not limited to anger management, depression, anxiety and panic, stress management, grief and loss, divorce recovery, and abuse issues. I primarily use a cognitive-behavioral approach in counseling. This approach is based on the idea that our thoughts, i.e. what we say to ourselves about ourselves, about others, and about the world around us determines the emotions we have and what we end up doing, that is, our behavior. We can learn to identify and then change these thoughts so that we begin to enjoy improved relationships and an increased overall satisfaction in our daily lives.

I work to form helpful relationships with people that include caring, genuineness, warmth and empathy. I'm a real person with counseling knowledge, interest and experience that I bring to the counseling process. My purpose and desire is for the people I'm working with is for them to be able to obtain what they are hoping to get from their counseling. I strive to be both "professionally human" and "humanly professional".

I would very much like to work with you to make the improvements you are looking to make in your life and invite you into that process.
