About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Family Life Educator. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Family Life Education in 2011 and a Master's degree in Counseling in 2014 from Spring Arbor University. During my master’s program, I learned about the following: Death and Dying, Grief, Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Art Therapy, Art Therapy, and Sexual Abuse which included Dissociative Identity Disorder.

My approach to counseling is eclectic with an emphasis on Humanistic Beliefs combined with creative expressions. I utilize creative person-centered and family systems, but I do believe in giving homework for work between sessions. I have 6 years of experience in the counseling field, including private practice and working for an agency. I am familiar with CBT, DBT, REBT but I am not officially trained in these approaches.

I completed my graduate-level internship at CareFree Behavioral Health where my clients were not insured or underinsured, had anxiety, depression, anger issues, domestic violence, grief, bipolar, and more.

My specialties include Anger/Stress Management, Anxiety/Depression, Grief/Loss, and Health Issues. I have unique experience and understanding when dealing with special needs children and those with health issues. My interests include Trauma, Health Issues, Family Relationships, Anxiety/Depression, Anger/Stress Management, Grief/Loss, domestic violence, and others.

I am currently working as a co-occurring counselor at a Methadone clinic helping patients deal with their addiction and mental health issues. I enjoy spending time with family, watching movies, listening to music, and reading books in my free time.

I do have a website/blog that has more information about mental health and some other important stuff. The website is www.darlacarmoneyllpc.wordpress.com. My Facebook business page is @darlacarmoneyllpc, so just look up that name on facebook.com.

Reviews

Written by C.A. on Jun 10, 2021 after counseling with Darla for 2 weeks on issues concerning stress, anxiety, and trauma and abuse

Darla is kind, attentive and understanding. I feel comfortable in our sessions and appreciate her checkins during the week. She provides a safe space for me to vent and process my thoughts without feeling judged.
