About me

Welcome to BetterHelp! I am glad you are here. I want you to know that whatever you are struggling with that has brought you here, I am here to support you in your journey. Sometimes there is no one in our lives we feel like we can talk to or share our pain with, but I want to assure you I am here to listen and try to help you figure things out.

My journey through this AMAZING journey we call life, has been colored with fun and adventure, as well as trauma, profound loss, and heartache. My own life experience have taught me many things-among those compassion, empathy, and resiliency. I am a divorced father of five (four daughters and one son), a go-getter, silly and fun, a risk-taker, and adventurer. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Master of Science degree in 1997 and was excited to start helping people change their lives. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in 1998 in Texas and have been working with clients of all ages for the last 21 years with a variety of issues such as: anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, career and life transitions, relationship and family issues, parenting, intimacy and sexuality concerns, and among other issues. I enjoy experiencing life and have come to understand what it means to really LIVE life. I enjoy traveling the world and experiencing different cultures; I have been to Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, South Korea, among other places. I make working-out at Orange Theory Fitness, running, and hiking a regular part of my fitness regiment. I believe nutrition, exercise, spirituality, self-care, and healthy relationships are all important aspects of finding balance.

My professional experience is varied and across a wide array of settings as I have provided individual, group and family therapy in community mental health agencies, behavioral health hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and even correctional institutions. I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness as my theoretical framework for helping my clients work through the issues that brought them to therapy. We will work together to determine the best approach for helping you on your therapy journey by establishing measurable goals to assist you in living your best life. Setting and realizing your goals is a team-effort and together we will work at your pace to effectively establish and achieve goals that make sense for your life. Whether you’re on an altruistic path of self-discovery, or ultimately looking to alleviate symptoms for a better quality of life, together we can work to achieve your goals!

Therapy is a journey and while you may feel lost or afraid right now, I am here to support you in finding your way to a more fulfilling life. It takes a lot of courage to participate in therapy and you have taken the first step in living your best life or being the best version of who you were meant to be. Having faced many adversities in my own personal life has taught me many things. Among these, compassion and kindness have proven to be valuable attributes in helping others. I look forward to supporting and empowering you.

Warm Regards,
David

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for David Butler. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

David is very friendly and easy to talk to. It was easy for me to open up to him about very personal subject matter. He has really helped me.

Written on Mar 21, 2023 after therapy with David for 1 month on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, intimacy-related issues, and self esteem

I've been working with David for 6 almost 7 months, and the progress I have made has been amazing. I came to therapy because I was ready to talk it all out, and David has been amazing at letting me process everything in my own time. He asks questions, uses his personal life experiences as references, and because of that, our sessions feel like I'm sitting talking to a friend rather than a therapist! Because of this progress and the help I've received from David, I am moving on to a brand new chapter in my life I never thought I would actually accomplish, moving out of state!!! December '21 can't get here soon enough. I look forward to continuing my therapy and continuing to grow and better myself!! Thank you David, for all you've done, do, and will continue to do!!

David is very friendly and welcoming. He is someone you can talk to and feel at ease.

I would recommend David Butler for patients, particularly those managing OCPD. While little is known about it, that has not deterred his invested eagerness to assist his clients. You might as well stumble together than blindly alone.

David is interesting, intelligent and very empathic with a human connection. I feel he is also able to adjust his therapeutic style to suit my needs and draw on different approaches to suit the situation and the person in front of him rather than having a one size fits all approach. Probably due to this I easily developed a strong therapeutic relationship and rapport with him in a way I did not with previous therapists. I have found working with him very helpful in starting to acknowledge, recognise and work through my many issues and complex experiences of trauma, including gaining insight for the first time into symptoms I’ve had for years without fully acknowledging. I would highly recommend him to others.
