About Me

For close to 35 years, I have been helping clients improve their mental health through Cognitive Behavior Therapy. The last nine years have been the most rewarding part of my counseling career. As a private practitioner, I have worked successfully with military families and active duty members returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

As a varsity football and baseball player in high school, I finished my athletic career at the University of Connecticut where I participated in Varsity football and lettered two years. I earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Connecticut. I completed my Master's Degree from Pepperdine University and my advanced counseling Certificate from the University of Bridgeport.

After college, I served Honorably in the United States Military and started working as a counselor in schools and mental health agencies in Connecticut. For the last 13 years, I have been working as a private practitioner in Eastern North Carolina.

David has been different that my previous encounter in that he reaches out to me and seems to take the time to understand and offer me solutions. So far, my experience with him has been great.

My counselor, David, has been helpful.
Whenever I ask him for extra worksheets and help on certain matters,
he is very responsive and tries to help me work on those.

He also is willing to change the method of counseling accordingly.
He originally asked if I could participate in video talk but I told him that I would like to do counseling mainly with text and he didn't have a problem with it at all.

David Ellis is what I would call a gentle soul. He not only listens he also hears and gives honest feedback. With each exercise I feel my self confidence returning. I like messaging as this works for me I can communicate when the timing is right for me. David respects my choices. Thank you David Ellis.
