About Me

About Me
My name is David Hunter LPC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state pf Arizona. I have worked as a counselor for 12 years. I have worked with juvenile and adult offenders in substance abuse programs. I worked for more than seven years in a community mental health clinic where I was expected to work with clients with all types of diagnosis including trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, anger management those with serious mental illness and substance use disorders.

I believe in treating every client with respect and dignity using a client centered approach and motivational interviewing to motivate clients towards change. I use cognitive behavioral therapy and Rational Emotive Behavioral therapy because I know that if you can change a client’s thinking then you will change their life. We will work together on thoughts, feelings and behaviors, emotional regulation and distress tolerance. I also use a mindfulness approach incorporating meditation, breathing exercises and unconditional positive regard.
The last couple of years I have been working with domestic violence perpetrators and those with substance use disorders.

Written by S.H. on Sep 14, 2021 after counseling with David for 2 weeks on issues concerning family conflicts, grief, and parenting issues

Things started out tentative with David but soon enough we had an easy flow of conversation and I felt comfortable sharing my thoughts. He's very thoughtful and gives good advice and strategies on how to move forward.
I wasn't able to do any face to face time so David made sure to answer my emails promptly. I always felt like I had him there to hear me and give feedback.
I'd choose him again if I needed services, he's very skilled in listening and giving back what I needed.
